L76870 unable to print in DRAFT mode

I have a L7680 All-in-One.  It is networked and used by several machines at home.  I just (3 weeks ago) got a MacBook Pro with Apple's newest OS (10.6.3) and am only able to print in PHOTO quality.

I wish to have the ability to print in either Photo, Normal, or Draft mode.

The printer is working fine with Win XP PRO and Win 7.

I downloaded and installed the latest driver from HP when I set up this printer and am running the HP Utility for the OfficeJet Pro L7600 (053C35)

I am printing primarily from the MS Office suite.

Thanks

Re: L76870 unable to print in DRAFT mode

First, are you positive that you never loaded the software from the printer disc and that you only downloaded the software for 10.6?

How does it print from other applications (other than Office)?

Re: L76870 unable to print in DRAFT mode

I downloaded the HP drivers and SW from HP.com.

I have this problem when printing from any application on the MAC.  (Word, Excel, Safari, Entourage).

Thoughts?

Re: L76870 unable to print in DRAFT mode

When you start a print job (File > Print or cmd-P), do you see a Presets pull-down?  What is on the list?

Also, as a tip, if you do not see a lot of menu items, click the triangle next to the printer name.  On the bottom-most pulldown, choose the "Paper Type/Quality" menu to reveal more options.

Re: L76870 unable to print in DRAFT mode

THAT WORKED!  THANKS for all of your help.

Is there a way for me to set this as a default, or do I need to go through this process all the time?

Re: L76870 unable to print in DRAFT mode

It should use the last print settings you chose.  Try to print again and check if they are what you set them to last time.

Re: L76870 unable to print in DRAFT mode

I have a MacBook Pro. I cannot print in draft mode for excel files that were originally created on a PC. I checked the drop down menu and the plain paper option is grayed out. If I cut and past the sheet to a new sheet it shows the plain paper option and allows me to print draft. But if I do the Move/Copy function to move the sheet it does not allow plain paper option. If I create a new excel spreadsheet on my Mac it allows plain paper and draft.

Re: L76870 unable to print in DRAFT mode

This was driving me mad!  I have a IMac.  The trick with printing a "draft copy" of an Excel spreadsheet that was originally created in a PC environment (or older version of Excel) is to:

select "Print" from the drop-down menu at the top of the screen (You can't use the short-cut or it won't work)

Select "Preview"

Select "File" and then "Print" a second time from your drop-down menu at the top of the page

Select "Preview" again and it will display a drop-down menu

Select "Paper type-Quality"

Select "Draft"

Just a side note.. You can also change to just Black and White from this menu as well by finding the greyed-out right-pointing triangle that states "color options."  It is in the middle of the whole menu page, near the bottom of the page.  Select the arrow and then you will get other options for color as well.
