Laserjet 3330 with Mac OSx

I have a faithful laserjet 3330 that has been a great workhorse for several years.  I have switched to a Macbook Pro.  Does anyone know if the 3330 will function as a scanner with the OSx?  I have been unable to find the appropriate drivers.  I print fine, but cannot scan.

Re: Laserjet 3330 with Mac OSx

As of 11/19/09 I just did a lengthy Google search for this issue. It certainly is true that HP doesn't care, and the HP 3330 scanning on a Mac has been an issue since sometime in 2003. People have been beating on HP for this issue and related MAC scanning issues since then. No action on the part of HP, and by now, I expect none. sigh...

Thanks for the conformation that HP really doesn't care.  I suppose there is always Canon.

Re: Laserjet 3330 with Mac OSx

First, it has nothing to do with caring.  It has to do with investment.  It takes tens of thousands of dollars to develop and test a printer's driver for a new operating system.  If there are not that many of these devices in use in the world (which I assume is the case) at some point it becomes a bad business decision to keep investing in support for the few devices that may still be out there.

Every company does this at some point.  Microsoft drops support for older versions (try getting help or updates or drivers for Win 3.1, 95, 98, 2000).  If you bought a Ford a few decades ago (cars are on a different product and use cycle) you can no longer go to your dealer to get parts.

By the way, Canon does the exact same thing.  They will not support products forever, either.  No company that wants to stay in business in the long run supports products forever.  They all draw the line somewhere.

Re: Laserjet 3330 with Mac OSx

From your note I assume you are able to print on your laserjet 3330.  I have just purchase a Mac laptop with 10.6.  However, I can't seem to find the printer driver.  Can you please let me know where/how you found it.

Thanks a lot,

NS
