Laserjet Pro P1606dn Firmware Update Issues

Saw that there was a recent firmware update for the Laserjet Pro P1606dn (version 20110513)  that adds AirPrint support.  Downloaded the installer to my machine running 10.6.7.

Followed the directions and hooked up the printer via USB and tried running the Firmware Updater Download utility, which would never run....  Just bounced in the dock alot and then sat there doing nothing. (tried numerous times)

Grabbed an older machine running 10.5.6 and tried running the utility from that machine it seemed to work (no feedback whatsoever) but printing a configuration page from the printer lists the newest firmware version.

Reconnected the printer back to my home network via a wired ethernet connection, and notice in the web admin pages for the printer that the network connection is 10bt half duplex.   No matter what I do I can't get it to change to 100bt Full Duplex, which was what it was before.  Changing the pull down menu in the "Advanced Networking Configuration" tab won't seem to stick for any choices other than 10bt half.  I know that this printer was set at 100bt Full duplex before the update.  My entire wired home network is gigabit (Switches/router/cabling etc.) I did try different ports on the switch as well as different cables with no success.

Printer seems to print ok albeit slower on large jobs, but anybody have any ideas?  This whole firmware upgrade process was a massive time suck that was one problem after another... anybody else having these issues with the firmware upgrade process or network connectivity after?

Re: Laserjet Pro P1606dn Firmware Update Issues

I just updated the firmware of my HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn to Version 20110513 as well, and I'm seeing the same behavior with the Link Settings negotiation. I was previously set to Full Duplex 100T, but unfortuantely like your situation, I'm now stuck in Half Duplex 10T. Changing it doesn't seem to stick. Hopefully this issue will be looked into. On a side note, at least AirPrint works :smileyhappy:

Re: Laserjet Pro P1606dn Firmware Update Issues

[ Edited ]

Hi,

Just wanted to chime in with the same issue - 10mbps half duplex only after applying the firmware update and the link speed shows up as 'unknown' in the configuration printout (holding the paper feed button for 5 seconds or so). Can't seem to revert back to previous firmwares either (there's one on the installation CD) because the old updaters won't allow a downgrade (on the Mac anyway). I have also tried a hard reset, holding both buttons on the top panel whilst powering up, and that does not solve this issue. Most perculiar and I wonder if HP are aware of it, or who to report it to if they aren't?

Re: Laserjet Pro P1606dn Firmware Update Issues

I noticed that there was an update the other day when I went to download drivers. I had an issue updating the firmware via the Mac unfortunately, so I had to resort to using Windows. I'm running Mac OS X Lion, so perhaps that was the issue. Any thoughts?

Regardless of that side issue, everything with the printer is back to normal and working nicely.
