Mac Double Sided Printing with new Adobe

Using Mac Lion 10.7.3 with Officejet Pro 8500a  910a  Have tried both Safari and Firefox.  Using Adobe 10.1.3.

Document to print is http://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/laus.pdf

Have downloaded all new HP drivers (I think).  Using printer button at bottom of page, two-sided printing option does not appear.  There is no other way to print this document (can't use drop-down file to Print or Save As).

Please use plain text.

Re: Mac Double Sided Printing with new Adobe

Review the steps below to set two-sided printing from Mac OS X:

1. Verify the duplex-printing accessory has been installed properly. To verify this open the System Preferences and go to Print & Fax. Open the print queue of your printer. Click on Printer Setup and from the tab menu choose Driver. Verify the box next to HP Two-sided Printing Accessory (Duplexer) is checked.

2. On the File menu, select Print. The Print window appears.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized. Click the blue triangle next to the printer name to see all available settings.

3. In the expanded Print window you will find next to Copies the checkbox for Two-Sided. Check the box.
NOTE: If the checkbox does not appear within the specific application print dialog, skip this step.

4. To select the binding type click the lowest selection box listed as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit)
Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.

5. Select Layout from the drop-down menu.

6. Set the Two-Sided option as Long-Edge binding (Portrait), or Long-Edge binding (landscape).

You may save the settings for future use by clicking Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset...

Re: Mac Double Sided Printing with new Adobe

Sorry for the delay.  We've been out of town.  Anyway, I could do everything you suggested, except that when I use the drop-down "print" from Safari, the document is not "read" by the system.  So, although I can check two-sided, nothing shows in the preview window and nothing prints.  (I did verify that two-sided printed is checked.)

Re: Mac Double Sided Printing with new Adobe

Hi,

It seems there might be some problem with the specific PDF file.

While Previewing the file, I got a blank sheet as well from either Firefox and Safari from both My PC and my Mac, however it seems fine by using CTRL+P to launch the print dialog.

Otherwise, you may also try saiving the file to your desktop.

Open it using Adobe Reader and try printing from the instead of using the browser.

I could not see any similar issues by using Google Chrome, so it might worth a try as well.

Hope it helps,

Shlomi

Re: Mac Double Sided Printing with new Adobe

I'm thinking this is NOT an HP problem, but has something to do with Apple and/or Adobe. You've been very helpful. I will accept this as the solution because all your suggestions were good, although the problem is not solved.

Re: Mac Double Sided Printing with new Adobe

Just to add,

I don't think it's an Apple or Adobe issue either.

As mentioned, I could reproduce the same on Windows as well.

The same also appeared for me with multiple browsers using several PDF plugins (Adobe Reader, Foxit Reader and Apple Preview).

As I could not see any similar behavior with several PDFs i tried, I guess it is an issue with the specific file.

Re: Mac Double Sided Printing with new Adobe

You're right in that I just tried to print from my Macbook after opening a pdf file in Preview.  (BTW, this is happening on all pdf files that we'd wish to access from bea.gov, bls.gov and federalreserve.gov).  When I opened the file in Preview, I was given the option to print two-sided and I checked it, but it still printed single-sided and more slowly than normal.  Since we print MANY long documents that would be much better two-sided, I'm going to keep pursuing this.  And, although you may be totally right about it not being an Apple problem, we DO have AppleCare so it's no time like the present to have a chat with those folks!

Thanks!
