Mac OS 10.6.x and Lion with 2600n

Ever since the HP 2.5.2 drivers came out for OS X when I print I get a dark haze over graphics.  I reverted drivers back in 10.6.x but unable to do that now with Lion.  The way HP did the older drivers, they don't work in Lion.

I have tried everything over the past few months and about 6 months ago was going back and fourth with Apple and we have it narrowed down to the latest firmware (20070716) and the drivers from 2.5.2 package onward.

Apple put in a bug report with HP and I have emailed them and still no fix.  This has been months maybe a year now.

Does anyone know where I can get the old firmware and is it possible to revert to the old firmware?  It would be nice to be able to use my printer again.  I hate to have to go buy another color laser printer just because of a driver issue.

I have looked through the HP ftp server and stuff is whacky on there, couldn't find the old firmware, found the new one that is now installed, but not the old one.  Windows 7 prints fine to the printer.   Am I the only one that updated to the latest firmware?  I can't believe this hasn't been fixed yet.

Setup:

HP Color LaserJet 2600n

Firmware: 20070716

OS X 2.7 HP Package Drivers:   1.3.0.261 is the driver version

No you aren't the only one.  My HP 2600N works great with my WIN machine but is useless on Mac Lion.  So is my Dell 2300N.  What gives!

I got functionality back in Lion by reverting a bunch of crap back for HP drivers.  I took packages from the 10.6.3 install dvd and manually placed the files and folders in /Library/Printers.

I'm tired of waiting on an update and this the other night and gave up.  Got fed up again because I needed to print something and took another shot at it and was luckily successful the second time.  But this needs fixed, its been too long for customers to be waiting.  Its something with the latest firmware and driver.   The HP Driver after the 2.5.2 Apple HP package and up has the bad driver.  Anything before then works fine.

Need help getting the driver to work let me know, I can maybe make a package and throw it up on a server somewhere to download to get the older HP software installed.

Well I am tired of waiting on HP for a fix.   I still want them to fix this problem, but in the mean time here is a package I made.
Install it at your own risk, but shouldn't break anything.

 
Just be sure to read the comments when installing!    

When setting up the printer you may see two drivers, don't pick the 1.3.0.261 driver.   Pick the plain "HP Color LaserJet 2600n" driver.

Hi, 

Just wondering if you could help me a little more...

I've downloaded and installed the driver update you so kindly made but I am still struggling in printing. 

If I go to add printers the printer comes up in the dialogue box and attempts to go and find the driver from apple, which obviously fails. I've tried finding the driver in the libary and adding it manually but no luck there!

Hope you can help, would be really appreciated.

Neither link works. Both pages have been removed.  I have a new iMAC 27 with Lion and can install the printer by IP address and it shows that it's connected and printing, but nothing prints.  I'd like to see if your patch works.

Best thing to do is email Meg Whitman and complain about the lack of drivers from HP for OS X on this printer......please do so!!
