It's worked perfectly since I bought it earlier this year. All of a sudden it couldn't print to it. My windows notebook prints to it wirelessly, but my mac can't even see it when I go to add a printer (I had deleted it already to see if that was the problem). It shows up on my verizon fios router setup (WPA) and I can access it through the IP address in my Mac's browser window. Even if I point to it's IP address in the printer setup it still won't print (can't connect). I have tried unistalling the HP software and doing a software update. Still doesn't see it. The only thing I have added to my network was an old airport express to play itunes on my stereo. Could that be interfering with my Mac and HP 6500? I've read some of the forum comments and it seems like a few people have had issues with their printers lately. Was their something wrong with the las HP update?

Is the Express on the same channel, with the same network name (SSID) and password?
Have you tried to reset the printing system:
- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

I just started having trouble printing. I see the printer, can reinstall it and everything. I can send documents, but nothing prints. I basically get the message that 'waiting for printer to become available".
what does this mean?

What version of OS X? How is the printer connected? If networked, what router?

I was connnected to hp printer Office Jet 7680(wireless connection), hp photosmart psc 2400 (USB cable) and both printers were working fine. I added hp Office Jet 6500 (wireless) Mac was able to detect this printer to install it, and all printers were working fine. My daughter attempted to add an old hp G85 series printer (Mac was unablet o detect this printer) so, she downloaded from hp website to my computer and was not able to print to it via USB direct connect. At this point I became unable to print to the 7680 and the 2400 printers. I became so frustrated (needed to print for work) that I bought a new hp Office Jet Pro 8600 and uninstalled all the printers. My Mac was able to see this printer, I installed it, and the Office Jet Pro is printing from my Mac just fine now. I still need to add a printer for the office. We tried to reinstall the 2400 using USB direct connect and downloading drivers from Hp, but I remain unable to print (the scan function is working, however). I am going to attempt to add the 6500 again but it is such a big printer for the desk at the office.
I am concerned that because Mac does not have an Uninstall or Delete Program function that I have so many remenants of printer programs that nothing will ultimately work right. Any suggestions??

Uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option to remove all of the software throughout the system:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall <<<< This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
Restart your Mac
Now reset the printing system:
- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
Do you happen to have HP software meant for pre-10.6 in your Applications folder?

I've been having a similar ("unable to connect") problem trying to connect a MacMini and iPad via Airprint to an HP Photosmart Plus 210. Seems like the MacMini detects the printer, but the job can't get off the queue. It used to work, just wasted hours trying to fix it. Driving me nuts!!
I followed your suggestion below to download & install, but that didn't help.
Not sure if I have pre-10.6 (where are my applications?); if so, should I go there?

Let's determine what version of OS X you are using: go to the Apple menu in the upper left > About this Mac.
Also, let me know what router you are using.
