Mac drops printer and scanner connections

I am having similar issues to other posts. I had difficulty installing my HP Photosmart Premium to my mac. I ended up connecting it with a USB cable to install. Once I unplugged the USB it work for a bit then dropped the connection. It says "Looking for printer"  then says the printer is offline. Same thing for scanning, it can't find the device. Sometimes, if I turn the printer off and on, it prints or sometimes if I leave it, it prints much later. I also set it up with my work PC and it was a breeze.

Mac OS X 10.6.5 (10H574)

SMCDG3M Cable modem and wireless router combo

WEP2

Any suggestions?

Re: Mac drops printer and scanner connections

What printer model?

Do you mean WPA2 (I have never heard of WEP2)?

Re: Mac drops printer and scanner connections

There wasn't a model number. It just said HP Photosmart Premium. When I plugged in the USB cable it said it is a C410 series.

Sorry, I did mean WPA2.

Re: Mac drops printer and scanner connections

OK, from the front of the printer:

1. Setup > Network > Reset Network Defaults

2. Setup > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard - follow the instructions to join your network.

Now, on your Mac:

Reset the printing system:

- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Re: Mac drops printer and scanner connections

I have also been having this problem.  I have an iMac with a new HP Prem 410C.  The error message tells me that the printer is offline.  Any help would be very appreciated!

Re: Mac drops printer and scanner connections

Is your printer also connected to an SMC router?
