Mac printing using HP4580

I have just purchased and installed the HP4580, and have received a confirmation HP Network Confirmation Page.  On the 4580 the blue wireless light is on, and the panel shows Scan/Reprint, plus the two Start Copy buttons.  I use Firefox.  I get a page on my screen that I want to print.  I click on File, then Print on the dropdown menu. Dropdown screen appears, and I make sure that HP Photosmart 4500 series is shown in the Printer field, and other fields are filled out.

Problem:  Nothing happens.  I then go to manual by clicking on the Start Copy buttons.  Still nothing.  What's wrong??

Re: Mac printing using HP4580

Let's check the connection between your Mac and the printer.  Can you access the printer's internal web page by browsing to it's IP address?  You can also do this by selecting the printer from the Bonjour bookmarks from Safari.

Re: Mac printing using HP4580

Hi Wi-Fi Guy -

My 4580  idles after not being used for a while. Really annoying.

I *can* see it from Bonjour.  It does report its ink levels and such.

What next to try?

I would like to wake up and print even if I have not used it for a few days/weeks.

THANKS!

Re: Mac printing using HP4580

It sounds like you have run into the C45xx sleep problem.  Go here and apply the firmware critical update for your printer.
