Just purchase the new OfficeJet Pro 8600 Premium and to my dismay, it is not compatible with Lion out of the box. ![]()
The software install CD is for Snow Leopard and below, which means the scan software and drivers must be found through alternate sources. I have tried to read through varios solutions, but I cannot seem to find a way to get the full driver and scanner software working in our OSX Lion environement.
Can anyone provide me help or provide a walkthrough to get our new printer up and running for our business?
Thank you!

By the way... upon reading how to add the printer to Lion, the directions say the following:
The HP product name displays at the bottom of the pane in the Print Using box. A 'The selected printer software is available from Apple. Click Add to download and add this printer ' message should display.
The "Selected printer software..." message does not appear anywhere in the the Print & Scan queue. Neither wirelessly nor when using the USB cable.

I have the same issue and as a workaround, i tried to setup scan to email and I keep gettign the following error "Network connection error. Check network and try again". THe 8600 is connectedt to the network as I can print wirelessly.

I was having an issue getting OS X Lion 10.7.4 to display my HP 8600 in the Print dialog. I finally got this to work.
Download the latest software drivers from HP.com/support (the version I received was v12.14.0.dmg)
Install the software and IGNORE setup in the wizard.
Use the front panel of the device to get it on the wireless network: you can use the network wizard for this - NOTE the IP address upon completion
You'll know when the device is on the network when 1) confirmed by the device or 2) is accessible via HP Utility that was installed during the .dmg execution
Now, click Apple menu > System Preferences > Print & Scan
Your device won't show up here, so click '+' > IP tab
THIS IS WHERE I GOT IT TO WORK:
Under 'Protocol' select 'HP Jetdirect - Socket'
Under 'Address' enter the IP address obtained from the network-connected device's front panel or using HP Utility on Mac
Once this happens you should see the dialog "thinking" and it will auto-fill the 'Print Using:' field with 'HP Officejet 8600'
Click 'Add' and you'll see a final communication dialog and success!
