New Deskjet 3050a J611 won't scan on iMac OSX 10.6.8 + HP Utilities do not open

Hello - before I posted this I spend some time looking around and following some advise given here. It did not solve my issue. I bought a new Deskjet 3050a yesterday.  Installation and Wireless setup worked fine.  I can print.  I cannot scan - not with my iMac scan programs nor with the HP Scan program.  I used the latest drivers I think. I first installed from the CD and then downloaded the iMac OS X 10.6 drivers from this site and re-installed.  I rebooted iMac. Switched printer on/off.  I still cannot scan.  The scanner programs don't seem to be able to make a connection with the printer.  When I press Scan on the printer menu screen I get a msg saying there is no computer connected.

In addition I cannot open the HP Utilities program - "some components are missing" says the error message (even afetr two ire-installs).

Any tips&tricks to resolve this I would appreciate.  Thank you in advance.

Joel

Re: New Deskjet 3050a J611 won't scan on iMac OSX 10.6.8 + HP Utilities do not open

Hi,

By reading your comments, you did not updated the latest driver by Apple Software Update, it could highly affect scanning from the Mac:

Click the Apple icon, then click Software Update.

Make sure to install any available HP Update, then check for any change while scanning or while launching the HP Utility.

If the same issue remain with no change, follow the steps below to fully remove and reinstall the software.

Step One: Uninstall HP Software by using the Scrubber feature:

**Please be aware that performing the next steps will remove any installed HP Software.

1. Click on Go menu (Click the desktop, then look at the menu in the bar at the top of the page)
2. Select Applications
3. Select the Hewlett-Packard folder
4. Double-click HP Uninstaller application
5. Follow the uninstallation till prompted to select a device to uninstall
6. Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall
7. approve any prompt to uninstall any HP Software.

Step Two: Reset the Printing System:

*Be aware that resetting the printer system will remove any existing print queue and reset any customized driver settings.

Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences .
Select Print & Fax.
Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your product in the Printers list in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system .
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type your user Name and Password .
Click OK . The printing system resets.

Step Three: Repair the disk permissions:

1. Open the the Applications folder.
2. Go to the Utilities folder.
3. Double-click on Disk Utility.
4. Select the hard drive containing the boot volume.
5. Go to the First Aid tab and select Repair Disk Permissions.
Note: This process may take several minutes depending on the Mac and amount of permissions that need to be repaired. The Progress Log will indicate when the proccess has been completed.

Step Four: Reinstall the latest Software below:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL37730/al-93167-1/Deskjet-3050A-J611-series_v12.7.0.dmg

Step Five: install the latest HP Update:

Click the Apple icon, then click Software Update.

Make sure to install any available HP Update

Please let me know of any change,

Shlomi
