No direct scanning from HP Photosmart Premium 310a

Every time I choose to scan directly (home screen>scan>computer) from printer to my Mac the following "SCAN PROBLEM" pops out: "Try starting scan from computer. Refer to documentation for details." Why is it so? The feature is so useful... when it works. Without that I've got to manually trigger scanning from preview app (+ set scan preferences, file destination, etc.)

Sorry but this is the way it is for now. You may like scanning from the Image Capture app better. Make sure to select your scanner on the left and click the "Show Details" button along the bottom.

my image capture initially has only cancel button, and once you have "managed" to click that, it will change into scan-button. It is quite annoying as I need scanner only couple of times in a month and always forget how get the scanning to work from computer. Anything you could do for that to get scanning to work from printer itself?

Hi,
if your printer is connected to Mac 10.7 thru wireless then perfrom the below step on the printer touch screen
Disconnect the power cord from printer and then hold the power button for 60 seconds and then release the power button while power cord is unplug, it will clear the static electricity of printer.
Then connect the power cord, turn ON the printer.
Perform the below step on the printer touch screen.
Then touch the Wrench icon / Setup icon from right side top >> touch Web Menu -- Product Updates >> Check for Product updates
Print a Network Configuration page from printer touch screen
Touch the wrench icon -- Network -- use arrow key to select View Network Setting >>Print Network Configuration Page
Then open a new web browser and type the Ip address in the address bar and hit enter
then click on Scan tab -- click on Web Scan.
