OfficeJet 6550 printing crashes any application

Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, any time I try and print to my OfficeJet 6550 that application crashes.  It doesn't matter if it is Safari, Firefox, Pages, Powerpoint, Photoshop or anything else.  I click the print button and it crashes.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled all my printer drivers to no success.

Here is a video of it happening.  I hope this helps someone figure out what happened.

Re: OfficeJet 6550 printing crashes any application

OK, I've figured out what I did, but I'm unsure of how to fix it.

Here is the scenario...

1.  Upgraded to Snow Leopard

2.  Tried to scan using the controls on the printer

3.  HP Scan software reported errors

4.  Reinstalled HP software from CD

5.  Printing now crashes Snow Leopard apps

So what I think has happened is that I've overwritten the HP drivers on Snow Leopard with the older ones that obviously don't work.  I've been able to print/scan from my iMac which I didn't reinstall the drivers.

My question is this now, how the heck do I fix my problem, get 10.6 drivers for my OfficeJet 6550?

Re: OfficeJet 6550 printing crashes any application

Uninstall the HP software (Applications, Hewlett-Packard folder) then do a Software Update from the Apple menu.

Re: OfficeJet 6550 printing crashes any application

The uninstall didn't remove the software, I still see it on my hard drive.  Running Software Update resulted in "Your Software is up to date".

Do you see a Hewlett-Packard folder in Applications?

Re: OfficeJet 6550 printing crashes any application

Is there an Uninstaller app there?  Is this the one you ran?

If you have already run it and it did not work you could drag the Hewlett-Packard folder to the trash then run Software Update.

Re: OfficeJet 6550 printing crashes any application

Yes the installer was still there.  It just appeared to delete the printer out of my Print & Fax prefs.

I dragged everything to the Trash and emptied it.  The software update still says I'm up to date.

Re: OfficeJet 6550 printing crashes any application

OK, try to print, it will likely not find the driver and (maybe) prompt a Software Update???
