OfficeJet 8600 won't print on Photo Paper

Nice shiny new OfficeJet Pro 8600 All-in-One printer, and it simply refuses to print on 4x6 Photo Paper. Always says to Load Paper in the Tray. The Tray is FULL of 4x6 photo paper. 

Interestingly, if I turn the photo paper over, it prints just fine, albeit on the BACK of the photo paper, which is obviously not what I want. I really need to be able to print on Photo Paper, but nothing I do seems to convince this thing that there is photo paper in it, unless it's upside down.

Exact same problem (among others).

Biggest problem though: HP Tech Support and/or Customer Service amounts to neither.

Unless some cooperation is forthcoming, I will seriously consider taking my new Officejet Pro 8600 to the rifle range and using it for target practice.

Then post it on YouTube.

So far my new 8600 pro will print approx 1/3 of a page on 4x6 photo paper. It is consistent in printing that amount on each attempt. I am removing all other paper and loading only 4x6 in the tray. Am I missing something? Seems like I'm not alone with this problem.  I'll return the machine if this can't be corrected!

Good luck with that...the return part that is. By the time I finished arguing with the brow beaters at HP over whatever problems the 8600 had presented, over 30 days had passed and the store wouldn't take it as a return simply because HP won't honor that transaction and the store gets stuck with the loss.

That was in May of this year, and the darned thing is starting to run low on ink (yes, already). As soon as it's out of

color...any color...I'll use it for a boat anchor and go back to Canon.

HP has recently released a firmware update for the 8600 series printer.  The firmware has several product fixes/enhancements.  Below is the list:

1) Enhance ePrint Diagnostic report for ePrint Setup
2) Improve ease of wireless setup
3) Enhanced Embedded Web Services
4) Improve Print Quality
5) Improve Ink Usage
6) Improve paper path performance
7) Improve Digital scan performance 

The firmware version is CLP1CN1304AR and was released 2013-03-21.

As mentioned in 6), the paper path performance has been improved and this was directed at printing with Cardstock/Photo Paper in the 8600.  

There are 3 different versions of the 8600 and I will provide links below to the download page for this firmware update for each.

8600 Base (N911a or CM749a)

8600 Plus (CM750a or N911g)

8600 Premium (N911n or CN577a)

Let me know the results of updating the firmware and differences with the product's capacity to handle Cardstock/Photo Paper.

Finally found the perfect solution to the  OfficeJet 8600 that won't print on Photo Paper.

It requires only 2 easy steps:

1) Toss the OfficeJet 8600 in the nearest dumpster.

2) Buy an Epson or a Canon or anything but another HP printer.

No thanks necessary.
