Hi,
I have an HP L7780 with duplexer. I am on Mac OS-X 10.6.8 and HP driver 3.0.2.
When I select two-sided printing and long-edge binding, the top line, about 0.34 inch (8.7 mm), on the front-side of each page is cut off.
Short-edge binding prints fine beacuse it sets a bigger margin at the top. The default margin according to the User Guide is 0.13 inch (3.3 mm) at the top, but it is 0.47 inch (12 mm) at the bottom (since the Mac driver doesn't have a Minimize Margins option). However, two-sided printing requires 0.47 inch for both margins. Long-edge binding keeps the smaller default margin. Applications (e.g. Safari and other web browsers) that always use the entire printable area as reported by the printer driver thus have portions of their documents cut off on long-edge jobs.
To solve this I tried to create a custom paper size "Two-sided Letter" in the Print Dialog with larger margins (i.e. a larger non-printable area) but I get the error message "The destination paper, Two-Sided Letter, is not available when Print Both Sides is set to Long-edge binding." I also tried checking "Scale to fit paper size" under Paper Handling, but this made no difference. I re-downloaded and installed the latest driver from HP, but the problem remains.
How can I duplex print long-edge without losing part of the print?
Can I modify the margins on default paper sizes (duplicating the paper size doesn't help) and if so where is the file and how do I edit it?
Do I have to upgrade to OS-X 10.7 Lion to fix this problem?
Thanks for any assistance provided!

Hello Wildlaw,
Thanks for the post. With this one, if you have not already solved it, I might suggest the following link. Also, check your driver version again, the link below the first will take you to the downloads page for your printer, I believe this one is later. Good Luck!
