Officejet 3680 driver won't install on OS 10.4.9

I set up this printer to run using the printer descriptions in Snow Leopard and it was a breeze for the two Macs I have running OS 10.6.1. But I have a PowerBook G3 running OS 10.4.9 which connects to my wireless network. It sees the device on the network via Bonjour, but it doesn't have the correct printer description. I tried to install the app that came on the CD supplied with the printer, but it doesn't finish installling. The dialog says the software installed successfully, but the "continue" button does not activate and when I go to close the window, I get a dialog telling me the installation has not finshed. And it never does. A "Hewlett-Packard" folder is created in my applications folder, but it appears to be empty. Any idea how this can be fixed? Thanks!

Install an updated version of your CD from here.

 

By the way, is there a specific reason that you have not updated your Mac OS to the latest version (10.4.11)?

Hi,

 

I did install from the disk image you referenced and it worked. I still haven't been able to print wirelessly, but now that I have the correct PPD, I should be able to figure out the rest.

 

As for my OS, I misspoke. The PowerBook IS running 10.4.11. I work on a lot of different machines and sometimes I forget which was the latest build of the OS on the machine I'm working on at the time. Ah, the senior moments. 

 

Anyway, thanks for pointing me to the download that solved the problem at hand. Now, on to the next issue ;-)

I am having a similar problem with a deskjet F4280.  Can you point me to a driver that will allow me to install this on OS 10.4.11, as my mac mini cannot be upgraded to 10.6.
