Re: Officejet 7410 & WPA2

OK, let's make sure you have the right software, then configure the printer through the software instead of the front panel.

Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish

Now, run a Software Update.

Now, download and install this.  Follow the directions for a Network Installation (or similar wording).

Re: Officejet 7410 & WPA2

I have the same issue. When you go through the menu on the HP 7410 display, the wireless wizard setup, it only asks for a WEP password, no option for a WPA/WPA2 or anything else, and it seems there is no way to get around this (I tried a lot of ways).  I tried connecting to the HP 7410 through bonjour, and I was able to connect through my MacBook Pro and able to see a configuration screen there for the HP 7410, and there was a way to set the security to WPA/WPA2 instead of WEP, but I can't get the settings to "take" via this method (I can't seem to get the settings to save, it seems to lose the bonjour setting when I click the "save the settings" button and then after this I have to start all over and reconnect to the HP 7410 via bonjour after resetting the HP 7410 to the default SSID so that I can reach it again through bonjour).

What is upsetting is that I know that there is a solution to this problem, because I set it up through WPA/WPA2 a couple of years ago and it was working fine since then, but I had to reset it recently due to adding a new Mac to my network and through that process I had to reset some things including the HP 7410, and now I can't get it back to working with WPA/WPA2.  Help would really be appreciated!

Re: Officejet 7410 & WPA2

On the printer - Setup > Networks > Reset Network Defaults.  Now try the Wireless Setup Wizard.

If that does not do it, reset the whole printer by holding # and 6 keys while turning it on.

[ Edited ]

PrintDoc, you are a genius.  You may think your fancy new network can run WPA2, but if you have a 7410 you have to step the network down to WPA/WPA2.  The 7410, as PrintDoc pointed out, understands WPA but not WPA2.  If you try to configure a 7410 to speak to a WPA2 network, you might expect to see a message such as: "Cherished customer, I cannot connect to your network because I do not understand the security protocol."  Instead, though, the folks at HP decided to have the printer say: "enter WEP".  That was a good choice if their goal was to raise their customers' blood pressure.  Anyway, reconfigure your Airport Extreme or other router to WPA/WPA2.  Don't forget to reconfigure your Airport Expresses, too, if you play music through them or have a big house, or both.  Then the printer's Network Wizard magically finds the new WPA-compatible network.

Re: Officejet 7410 & WPA2

I notice that the last postings regarding WPA2 and the Officejet 7410  are several months old, so I'm wondering if there is any update on this issue.  I have WPA2 encryption and my 7410 only will accept a WEP.  HELP!  I need this printer to network and I'm NOT going to reconfigure my router to step down to an outdated encryption standard.  Isn't there an update of some sort to solve this problem?

Re: Officejet 7410 & WPA2

Your printer SHOULD accept WPA, but will definately not accept WPA2.

Re: Officejet 7410 & WPA2

I have been helping someone all day with the same problem, WEP option only (at the console) and he's running WPA2 on a Linksys router.  When we connect via ethernet to the router, the web admin console is available and has WPA on the advance tab - but does nothing to actually connect the printer to the router.  If it can't use WPA2, that's ok.  But having to use WEP is another story entirely.  Any help would be great appreciated.  BTW, he is using a couple of Macbooks and nothing else.

Re: Officejet 7410 & WPA2

It shouid take WPA -TKIP, but the display will only say WEP.  Try it.

Also, and I know this sounds strange, but change the router 2.4GHz channel to 11.

Re: Officejet 7410 & WPA2

You are a magician sir!  Thank you!

One last question though, he would like to hide his SSID beacon.  But when he does, it knocks his printer offline.  Is is safe to assume this is a "no go" for the printer? Or is there a tweak for it?  Thanks again!!

Re: Officejet 7410 & WPA2

Yup, hiding the SSID is a no-go for the printer.   Besides it is no kind of security measure - freeware from the Internet will detect a hidden SSID.
