I have not observed this before, but it may have occurred.
The only recent change in the system is an upgrading af the operating system

Hum. Do you happen to have Comments turned on? Make sure they are turned off: Menu > View > Hide Comments.
This can cause the PDF to shrink to make room for any comments that were attached.
