Photosmart C4280 Scanning Problem

I have a MacBook Pro connected to an HP Photosmart C4280 All in One. Whenever I try to scan an image, the printer gives the warning that the USB is not connected when it clearly is. Please help.

My first problem is that the scanner does not want to scan the entire page every time and sometimes just a sliver.  I have tried all settings and lowered the quality but still it took 3 hours to scan 6 pages that were able to be decyphered.

Secondly, my color prints but black won't

Re: Photosmart C4280 Scanning Problem

What if you've uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled the complete package and the message is still coming up that the USB is not connected when it clearly is? My C4280 is on a PC, but it's the same problem. The machine prints fine from the computer and it copies from the scanner bed, it is just "not connected" when trying to scan from the bed into the computer. I can't think this could be a bad USB cord because it receives without any trouble. The device manager entries are as they should be, and I updated my BIOS software as HP directed here. I'm at a loss.

@cass423:

In the HP Scan Pro preview window is a dotted line box which indicates what part of the page will be in the final scan.  This size is determined by the printer guessing which part of the image you want based on contrast.  You can't turn this resizing behavior off, but you can adjust the dotted line box by dragging the edges of the box with your mouse.

If scans are taking a long time, you've adjusted the resolution too high.  200 dpi is enough.

Please ask your printing question in another thread as that is a different topic.

@Ellevemia:

Reinstall from the download at hp.com, not from the original CD which is older software not fully compatible with OSX 10.5.

Re: Photosmart C4280 Scanning Problem

May 27th 2010 -

C4280 on XP - when scanning I also get the "USB not connected " message when it has just printed something else, proving that the cable certainly IS connected. I've also just downloaded the basic drivers again so everything is up to date. I tried downloading an earlier link to a fix on th

is board but it is missing.

Come on hp. If you cant get your products to actually work, your corporate credibility will continue to fall. Answers please.
