Specifically, the ability to print borderless photos. I'm also getting half-prints unless each sheet is fed individually. All was OK until loading the most recent driver updates. Also, is HP Photosmart Studio not supported for my OS? It is also acting strangely, and I'd reload it if I could find a replacememt.

If you are using Snow Leopard or Lion and have HP software for pre-Snow Leopard (either from a CD not marked as compatible with 10.6/10.7 or you recently upgraded to Snow Leopard or Lion and had the HP software on your Mac before you upgraded - even if you did a standard uninstall of the old software or installed new software over the top of it) you must uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall <<<< This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
Restart your Mac
Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
Now reset the printing system:
- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
Finally, download and install this: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloa

This made things worse. I still get this message: "The selected printer does not support any borderless papers" whereas I've had the printer since 2009 and previously had no problem getting borderless prints. Quality of prints is now worthless. I tried to print a 4x6 using Photosmart Studio. I got no option for "Print quality" and got draft quality -- a quick sweep and a blurry print. I then tried iPhoto. I got a larger print (still with small borders) but it was over-inked and jagged. I'll now change paper and try to print a document, but boy, am I hacked.

I can no longer print documents. An attempt to print a Word document causes the printer to expel a sheet that is blank except for a box in the center that reads "Photosmart C4400 series"

Is there any other HP software in your Applications folder (other than the one you just installed)?

HP Photosmart Studio remained on my disk. I re-scrubbed by your procedure (is it documented? I'd never seen it), and re-installed, and that program disappeared. I can now print photos using iPhoto, & the only change from before is that I can't get rid of a small residual border.
