Photosmart C7280 on iMac with MAC OS 10.6.7 Scanner error message

Photosmart C7280 on iMac with MAC OS 10.6.7 Scanner error message when I use Image Capture, Preview, Hp Software such as HP Photosmart Studio and HP Scan. The Message says Error Sorry an unknown error has occurred.I can hear the scanner warming up when I open scanner software. When the error message comes up, I then have to force quit as the Error message & Scanner window will not close. My scanner used to work great. I recently reinstalled everything on my iMac. I reinstalled with the most recent software on the HP site. The Printer and copier work great.

I know the scanner itself does work  as I just used Webscan with it and the image came up, but I have no idea where the image went on to my sacnner.  But that is another problem.

Can  you help, pleeease. I have been fiddling with it all afternoon!

Did you ever have hp software for the printer on your Mac?  If so, you must uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:

Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall <<<< Scrubber Option
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish

Restart your Mac

Now, run a Software Update.

Finally, download and install the "Full Featured" Driver and Software from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.

I ran through your instructions and this did not help my situation.  I have a 64 bit OS Snow Leopard.  Is the solution below supposed to work for 32 or 64 bit OS?

This was very helpful.  I followed it to the T. Fixed the problem.  I didn't need to take my printer in or pay to have it fixed via phone and computer.  I am thankful!
