Printer driver for mac 10.5.8

Lots of blogs suggest not installing the HP software but simply install the printer drivers. Which printer driver for hp officejet 6500n for mac 10.5.8 do I need and how do I get it please?

These advices are for 10.6 and 10.7 users.

Being on 10.5 you can safely download and install HP driver.

Trawling thru HP's site just left me more and more confused but your answer did the job 🙂 I downloaded the software and now it seems to work fine so thanks for saving my sanity - and the window the printer was about to go thru.

One other question if I may:

I wanted to set some preferences, ie to set print quality on the front panel to the max 3 star all the time instead of having to select it each time and also to switch off wireless which I dont use. When I used the front panel (setup) it said 'connecting to computer' but the help screen didnt work and the msg was:

Help viewer does not know how to handle the selected URL

The selected URL is: file:///Library/Documentation/Help/Hewlett-Packard/Context_Help/Device_Mgr/c_device_mgr

If you have any info I would be most grateful but just to have the printer working is a big relief anyway and I guess I can find the full operating instructions somewhere on HP's site?

You should check "How to" and "Solve a problem" sections or download a manual if you don't have one.

Hey there, and thanks again.

I realised in sys prefs, the driver had set to 6500 Fax which disallowed paper types/quality selection etc. I deleted this driver, set it to regular 6500 and now I can choose the preferences I need.

The printer is not printing curectly the only thing it is printing from is the Ipad and it will print it very small and when we try to print it from the computer it just shots out blank pages and won't print anything.
