I have just tried to set up my new Photosmart 5510. I am following the setup on screen procedures, but have encountered a message -
"printhead is missing" "lift latch, reseat the printhead, and then lower the latch".
I have found other posts on the forum which suggest that there is no latch on the 5510 and the printhead is not removable. Is this message displayed because I have not installed the cartridges yet, or is there another problem?
Thank you

The printhead is fixed in this model, it is not removable (no lever). You can try removing and reinstalling the cartridges, but if the message doesn't clear, you will need to call support (1-800-HP-INVENT) and have the printer serviced.
Hope this helps

Hi,
Thank you for the reply. I haven't yet put the cartridge into the carrier / print head. I was expecting to do this at a later part of the installation.
Is this what is causing the error message? I don't want to have to waste four cartridges by installing them if I then have to send the printer away for repair.
Thank you.

I would recommend installing the cartridges to see if it works. If it works, then you will be up and running.
If it doesn't work:
- If the printer is within 30 days of purchase, you could try to replace it at the place of purchase.
- If it is outside the 30 day period, then call support - it is more likely that you will be sent a replacement, than have to send it in for repair (they might have a few troubleshooting steps that they would like you to go through - just let them know what you have done thus far).
If the printer does need to be replaced, check with the tech on the phone to see whether or not the cartridges will work in the replacement, or if they will need to send replacement cartridges - just to be sure.
Hope this helps
