Printing on CD/DVD

1st time printing, using Photosmart Premium 309a 'all in one' printer, connected to Apple MacBookPro.

'Create' facility is greyed out. What have I not done during setup. Standard print function OK.

Printed off 'how to' from web site but stuck at 'Create' stage.

Any help will be appreciated.

What OS are you using?  And how is the 309a connected?

I am at 10.6.1 & connected wirelessly.

Are you using the software within Snow Leopard or HP software?  If HP, did you download the 10.6 software or are you using the software from the CD that came with the printer?

I am using Snow Leopard & I loaded the software from the HP disk. 

I get Photosmart Studio which is where I get the create problem.

I also have 'Device Manager' but this only shows items for scanning

Ok, so here's what I have found:

The 10.5 Photostudio doesn't function flawlessly with 10.6, I had the same issues as you.  So  I removed all of the 10.5 software, deleted the printer queue, went to HP.com and downloaded the 10.6 software package for the C309a.  Than I setup to the printer again, on my system HP ran an update.  If you've already done that, than it may not happen.  The 10.6 software doesn't have Photostudio, it will be available for 10.6 as a separate download when it has been completed.  I would expect that to happen soon. 

I was able to print to a CD however.  It isn't the most efficient workflow, but it works for now until Photostudio gets posted for 10.6. 

Here's how I did it:

I created the image I wanted in Preview, went to File/Print

In Paper Size I selected CD/DVD 120 mm

I scaled the image manually to include what I wanted on the CD

In the dropdown, I went to Paper Type/Quality

Make sure Paper Type is CD/DVD printable, there are three options, choose whichever is appropriate for your media.

In Source, select CD/DVD Tray

Click on Print

Have been out all day & just picked up your comments & workaround.

As to the 10.6 software update, I will await it, as it is likely to happen shortly.

In respect of the Preview work around I have tried it, quickly and got to the stage where it wanted the CD/DVD tray opening so I know it will work as a solution.

As I needed to send the reproduced DVD's this morning I had to let the go unprinted & I don't have any others prepared to complete the workaround.

I, too, am using the c309a with a MacBook Pro.  I have printed labels for well over 50 DVDs with this combo; however, when I attempted to print a DVD yesterday, the alignment was off a full three inches!  I tried upgrading my printer driver and even printing from a PC, but the results were the same.  I contacted the software developer (Discus) during the troubleshooting, and we quickly determined it wasn't the software.  My parents also have the c309a, and I took my MacBook to their house, and the DVD printed as it should.  Any idea what could happen that would cause the alignment to be off three inches?!?
