I can't invoke the scanner from my mac desktop. It tells me it doesn't see the scanner.
"Scanner communication cannot be established." Officejet Pro 8500 A910 [5D18E0] is currently unavailable. Ensure your device is powered on, check the connection, and ensure your network is functioning properly. If these conditions are correct, restart the device and try scanning again."
Another post said there's an additinal piece of software you need that's not in the basic driver, however the link he gave was for an .exe file, and I have a mac.
Where do I get the additional software for a mac. Thanks.

My HP printer scanned fine using my MAC until this latest driver update. What have you done??
Now menu asks to set computer but does not show any computers. This true for both USB xabke and wireless connections.

in the library is com.hp.printerutility and com.hp.scanmodule
I have to confess that I may have been confusing what is possible with Windows machines and my recent Mac experience. Previously I found the easiest way to scan stuff was by using the HP menu choosing Scan then from the printer display and controls selecting the computer, then selecting PDF and the file was created on the machine. I am certain this worked for PCs but am now beginning to wonder if it ever worked for the Macs. If you try with the Mac on Mountain Lion the printer fails to find any connected devices.
The not so friendly alternative of going into Preferences > Printer > Selecting Printer and then scan seems inconsistent. This one semi-reasonable solution with the Mac appears to be to use Apple Preview. Selecting File > Import from Scanner - and if necessary >Show details to switch resolutions and flatbed/doc feed. Whilst this is a solution it is a little disappointing that HP is not more Mac friendly.
I'm using a MacBookPro early 2011 8GB memory. Have no other issues since the Mountai Lion upgrade. I have read & Write permissions for the HP software

OK, I like scanning with the Image Capture app in the Applications folder. Click on your scanner on the left then on "Show Details" along the bottom.

OK - Thanks - I change to Macs earlier this year and I guess in part this shows my ignorance I had assumed something called Image Capture was to do with photographs and I use Photoshop for this so had never examined the App.
Still - given that Apple has moved from minority player to major player and allowing for the different approach to security could not HP do a little more to be friendly - either by making the printer controls work for scanning or by creating a separate App for Mac. Had a quick look at your online manual and saw nothing explaining the printer controls do not work for Macs.

Following previous exchange worked for while. Now neither scans or prints wirelessly.
Printing network config page everything appears correct - it shows correct hub - ip address for hub - for printer etc Port 9100 is enabled. From the mac preferences there is a nice green dot by the wireless version of the driver. Yet when you try and print something you get - looking for printer - pause - pause - pause the printer is not connected.
Have reset wifi password also to ensure this was correct - makes no difference.
