Resolving Mac 10.7 Issues
How do I add my new HP printer to a Mac that is already running OS X 10.7?
The in-box HP software CD for previous Mac OS X versions for many current HP products is not
compatible with OS X 10.7 Lion. You might receive an 'Unsupported Operating System '
message if you try to install OS X 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, or 10.6 software, either from the software CD or
from HP Web downloads, on a Mac running OS X 10.7 Lion. This is expected behavior because the
software is designed for operating systems previous to OS X 10.7.
You will experience the best performance and functionality if you download the latest HP software from
Apple Software Updates . Follow these steps to add or create a new printer queue.
1. Press the Power button to turn on the HP product.
2. Connect the HP product to the computer with the USB cable or through your Ethernet (wired) or
wireless network, depending on your connection type.
NOTE: Wireless printers must be connected to the network first. Add your HP product to
your wireless network from the product control panel. Apple Software Update does not
provide an installer flow through the setup and install process.
3. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences . The System Preferences
window opens.
4. Click Print & Scan . The Print & Scan window opens.
5. Click Add Printer , and then click the name of your HP product.
6. The HP product name displays at the bottom of the pane and in the Print Using box. A 'The
selected printer software is available from Apple. Click Add to
download and add this printer ' message should display.
7. Click Add to start the download and setup, and to automatically create the HP printer queue.
NOTE: If your product supports scanning, you can use the Preview or the Image Capture
application to scan.

Does my printer support OS X 10.7?
If your product supported OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, it should continue to support OS X 10.7 Lion. Click
this link, HP Products with Print Drivers Supported in OS X 10.7 Lion and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow
Leopard (c01664444) for a list of HP products that support Lion.

Try this:
reset the printing system:
- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax or Print & Scan
- Press & hold down (control key on keyboard) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Then test print...enjoy!

You need the wireless password of your router, then configure the wireless set up on the printer so that your printer & wifi router will communicate...then you can print wirelessly whlie browsing the internet wirelessly.

hi bassergitz,
I've downloaded this from HP:
I did this because I recently upgraded my Mac OS from Snow Leopard to Lion ( OS X 10.7). My HP WiFi printer has stopped functioning.
It appeared the additional HP software upgrade was necessary.
I downloaded this HP downloadable for my HP Officejet 6500A Plus (At this time plugged in via USB only).
As I installed the software and launched it...it stopped at a point where the WiFi Printer function was recognized but there were issues. It hinted about the router not recognizing it.
The WiFi printer setup will not move forward from that point.
So...I looked into my Router settings and found that the Authentication Type was set to the default = WPA-PSK (TKIP) & WPA-PSK (AES); and that the Wireless mode was defaulted to 802.11b/g.
I changed the Authentication Type to = WPA-PSK (AES); and I changed the Wireless Type to 802.11g and saved the settings. ( which will reboot the router system).
At this point, I turned OFF the printer power as well.
Once the WiFi internet service turned ON, I immediately turn ON the power of the printer.
Sure enough, in a few seconds, an automatic software update came in from Apple Software Update. The "new" printers now populated in the list of available printers.
I added the "new" Officejet printer and its FAX counterpart in the Apple's "Print & Scan" system options and shared both of them.
I unplugged the printer USB and tested the WiFi feature...AND IT WORKED !!!

Hi,
I've recently bought a mac book air with os x 10.7 Lion and I also experience printer problems with our wireless printer HP photosmart B110 series. The printer works wireless with all our windows-pc and windows-laptops, and without any problems. Trying to find the printer with my macbook air is a little bit problematic but after disabling the firewall it finds the printer and installs the proper software on my macbook air. I can connect to the printer giving me the details of the printer such as ink levels etc and, Immediately after installing I manage to print one document but after that it fails to print another one. I keep getting the message that the printer is not connected. Strangely enough it looks like that only in the very first seconds after installing the printer on my macbook air or after turning the printer on, the macbook air and the printer are able to connect to each other. A little while after the macbook air fails to send a print message to the printer. In addition, using the driver software on my macbook air I fail to connect to printer at all. Can't open its website (http://hp8b5085.local./), don't get info on ink levels any more. Can anyone help me with this perculiar problem?

I can not get my HP Photosmart C4580 to connect wireless to my new Comcast router. I did work previously when I was an ATT dsl customer.
