Scan Support for LaserJet 3050 for 10.6?

Guys, I hear you. I bought my printer / "scanner" only 1 year ago. I cant believe H-P is unwilling to resolve this, whilst Canon is blitzing ahead.

At least i know one thing. H-P is never getting my business again.

Mac with Snow Leopard & 3yr old HP 3050 AIO: 1. Prints one side only with Snow Leopard driver (no duplex when checked). 2. Can no longer receive or send faxes 3. Installed HP Director and updated the driver: Was able to scan but not fax and the Mac no longer recognized the 3050 as a printer. 4. When I use the 'printer utility' (web based) I can print the font examples through the utility, but I can't print web pages. 5. Removed and installed all HP software & drivers no less than 5 times (only because I've read it takes several times to get them to "stick", which is ludicrous). 7. I have a business that relies on receiving and sending faxes; I am at a complete stand-still and am forced to purchase another AIO device or one each of a scanner, printer & fax machine. 8. Really pissed and frustrated at HP & Apple's lack of support.

Thanks, this solution also worked for the HP 3030 with the Mac OS x 10.6 update and same subsequent issues of the USB not being recognized.

I got the HP 3050 to print by uninstalling everything and allowing the Apple Update to install the HP Driver.  Then installed the AIO software from HP.  I get the 3050 kext improper message but just click ok.  Then reboot... The Setup wizard comes on and can't id the printer.  If you print a blank sheet of paper then the Printer appears.  Complete the setup wizard.  The printer should work fine but if you need to scan, you will need to print a blank page then open the HP Director window which will allow you to Scan, Email, Fax (Scanner) option.  What a flakey work around but you can print and scan this way.

If you have not gotten one yet go to http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3669#brother and you can see all the Brother Printers that work.  I got the MFC8220 and it prints, scans and faxes.

Hi all,

            I'm a Windows Vista user and I echo your sentiments regarding HP's lack of support for the 3050. There hasn't been a scanner driver update since June of 2007. Just because a product is no longer being offered for sale and is no longer under the 1 year warranty, does it mean that we should not expect that updates be provided? Microsoft provides updates for Windows for 7+ years after release. I'm sure  that Apple supports their products pretty well. Issues like connectivity and viewabilty of scanned documents need to be addressed by HP with this product, regardless of when it was produced. I would fully expect that a newer HP product  would be able to scan faster and with greater detail, this is OK. The 3050 should still be supported and work decently, though.
