Scanner light rolls twice - HP Photosmart Premium C310a

I've recently encountered a strange problem with my printer. Basically it takes twice as much time to scan anything. Let's say I put something on the glass and then trigger the scanning from the preview app on my Mac. Scanner light starts rolling and the info pops out on the printers display. Then I hear completion signal, the info disappears from the screen... and suddenly I hear the scanner light to roll for the second time (with no info on the screen). Why?

Try the same thing using Image Capture instead.  Does it do the same thing?
