I recently installed MAC OS X Lion (10.7) and am now not able to scan using my HP Photosmart C4280. I have removed the old HP software and reinstalled the new version using the Apple Icon. I am able to print but not scan. Apple shows that the C4280 support both printing and scanning. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Download and install this: support.apple.com/kb/DL907
Reset the printing system:
- Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

I was able to Reset the Printing System per the instructions provided and re-installed the printer (Add). When I click Print and Scan, there is no Scan option that shows up in the window; only Print options.

OK, try scanning using Image Capture in your Applications folder.
What router are you using? Did you download the drivers as indicated above?

Hi,
I have the same issue and I did follow the described SOP, (including the installation of the new HP drivers,
at first ), but within the Default tab I don't find the printer, so I'm not able to re-add it. Could you please help me?
I will appreciate any help!!

Sorry, Image Capture is all there is for Lion.
What procedure allowed you to re-add the printer?

Thank you! Your solution worked for my Photosmart C7280 as well.
Please change the HP support pages to reflect this need for extra software.
For my printer the HP support page specifically statedsthat no extra software download is necessary as long as my computer was up-to-date with the latest changes from Apple. I'm on OSX 10.7.5 with automatic updates and did an update check. I fumbled around a lot on my own to try to fix my scanner not working problem before I found your helpful post. I am very grateful, but the HP documentation was mis-leading and cost me a lot of extra time.
