Half A$$ work around

So I finally have a partially working printer.....  The "workaround" only works for some programs and not for others.  None of my print sharing to Parallels works, I can't even print a PDF through Adobe Acrobat Professional.

HP please get to work on a real driver that works properly.

Re: Snow Leopard Drivers for laserjet p1006

Thanks, tekkfu, you put me on the right course!  I now have my P1006 printer up and running again on my iMac with SL. However, I would like to make a few suggestions for those that decide to try your procedures.   After performing Steps 1 and 2, and working through the screens to download the specific driver for the P1006 printer, I decided to try skipping Steps 3 through 8 of your procedure.  I went ahead and clicked on the "Install" icon displayed on the screen and worked through the corresponding screens.  When successful installment was indicated, I did a Restart of the OS 10.6 and printed some screens to verify that the printer was functioning properly.  Skipping Steps 3-8 worked for me, and saved me a lot of time, but I can't say it is going to work for everyone.  I'm no "tech whizz" --- others may find it is necessary for them to manually uninstall/delete/trash/flush existing printer/driver files and data before attempting to install a new printer/driver combination.  But before doing all that "manual labor", why not give the shortcut a try?

For all the other owners of HP printer models that are currently in need of SL drivers, you may find that following this above procedure will direct you to the exact driver you need for your printer model, too!  Pass the word around, and be sure to post your results (good or bad) back here on the Board.  Thanks!

Re: Snow Leopard Drivers for laserjet p1006

Thanks for the feedback since my last post, I had to reinstall the drive again to my wife's Mac because it stop working but it did work again after the install. This is a buggy way to install your printer but it works. Thanks to the person who found this old drive and supplied the link to the site with the driver.  It's kind of sad that HP only updated their expensive printer and not their cheap ,more popular one's like P1006. It doesn't look like its alot of programing that is needed to update it,since the 10.4 driver works fine for basic printing but not for 3rd party printing like Adobe PDF's. The next time my company or I look to buy a new printer, I will look for another company who more on the ball with updates.

Re: Snow Leopard Drivers for laserjet p1006

Tried this, didn't work. I haven't been able to print from my P1006 since I upgrade to Snow Leopard. I just bought the printer and now with the semester starting, I may have to buy another printer. I'm ready to toss this stupid Mac in the trash.

Manuel, you should be canonized a saint.  I downloaded driver software v1.04 and it worked fine. I'll suggest HP hire you for their Rome office.

Re: Snow Leopard Drivers for laserjet p1006

Hi Guys..

After a little bit of research here is a solution that worked for me for this exact problem.

Here is the post I read:

Hope this works:

There is a temporary solution that works. It is from HP support forum user Manuel.
Use the v1.04 driver, instead of v1.07(the latest one). It works.

Procedure:
1) Delete the HP P1006 printer from Print & Fax panel in the System Preferences.
2) Delete the /Library/Printers/hp/laserjet/HP1006
3) Make sure the printer is on and connect with the computer. Download the driver from: Link for the v1.04 driver: http://driverscollection.com/?file_cid=399489231573f9b4ad62f5159c3
Install.

Re: Snow Leopard Drivers for laserjet p1006

Has anyone tried the latest update from Apple? Supposedly that's supposed to fix the problem. I have the old drivers downloaded and they work fine, so I don't want to fix what isn't broken, so to speak. Just curious if anyone's had success with that method.

For those of you still looking for a way to use your p1006 with SL, download the update from apple, and it'll work flawlessly. :smileyhappy:

Re: Snow Leopard Drivers for laserjet p1006

I did the HP update thur the Apple Update program and the P1006 stop working thur my Airport Extreme. It showed the printer and everything, but when I went to print something it says that the printer is busy. I uninstalled the printer and reinstalled the old driver. I didn't try the USB straight to the Mac,but as far as working over my network,I would keep the old driver. I don't know how apple push this driver and it doesn't work with their own routers. FAIL Apple big time.

Did anyone get this to work over their network and HOW?

Re: Snow Leopard Drivers for laserjet p1006

I have been printing on my network since the new update was released.  I never had it hooked up via USB as there is a G4 in my house that prints wirelessly to it.  I'm printing fine on my Airpot Express, just make sure you have the latest firmware for the router.
