Hi Ady lil,
What printer do you have? Most of our products have the software built into Snow Leopard. There are a few that were inadvertently left out of the OS release and we are working hard to get those available through either Apple Update or through HP.com. If I know what product you have, I can see what we can do to get the unit up and running.

Hi Adylil,
I have good news for you. The C4580 is part of the C4500 series. The drivers for it are already included in the Snow Leopard OS. All you have to do is get the Photosmart ready and powered on, and than attach it to your Mac with a USB cable. We have a document HP Photosmart, Officejet, and Deskjet Printers - Mac OS X: Setting Up and Using the Product in Mac O... that will walk you through the process of getting your Photosmart setup and ready to print.
If the HP drivers do not show up in the Print and Fax dialog, they were probably not installed when 10.6 was installed. To get them, just pop the 10.6 DVD in and go to the Optional installs and install the Optional Installs. mpkg. In there you'll see an option to install Printer Support. Put a checkmark in that box and finish up the install.
After that, the OS should automatically find the right drivers for your C4580.

Many thanks for your email regarding my Hp C4580.
Sadly everything I have tried and your suggestions still does not work.
I have got the printer printing wireless and usb, but it will not work when you want to scan. It simply says 'Sorry error cannot find scanner', even though it will have just printed a test page wirelessly..... very odd. Having looked at the HP web site it would appear that the drivers are not available for the 10.6 version.
As a result I went into Apple and made an appointment with the Genius and told him all the above. He did all I have done and was advised to do by your good self and his conclusion was that HP have not managed to release drivers for the scanner to work in unison with the printer.
Thanks again though, may be you could get HP to get their fingers out. I cannot be the only one who cannot scan. If you have any other suggestion in due course be very grateful
I will keep checking their web site periodically and Apple up dates and hope drivers are avail soon

So did u actually get the scanner function to work? I bought a new iMac this past weekend with the C4580 and I am getting the same error message when trying to scan. Prints fine, copies fine, just will not scan....
I have tried reinstalling, and looked on the HP website as well.
I guess the next step is cal Apple and replace it with different all in one.

Hi there
many thanks for your email last week. I have been away , sorry for the delay in reply.
Nope no scanner function at all. Only prints fine, wireless and usb, will photo copy and all other functions.
I went into Apple store in Brighton, with printer in tow and spoke to a genius. There diagnosis was that the Snow leopard will not work this printer at the moment as HP have not allowed for SL even though all manurfacturers said they were ready for the launch of SL. His advise was to keep and eye on HP web site and wait for then to release the up dates for the C4580 printer drivers and when they are there down load and it SHOULD be ok.
I have considered going back to Apple and getting a refund on SL and reverting back to original system before i up graded to SL
Hope this helps and if anyone has a solution be great to hear your news

had the same problem and googled it. It seems that the application to start the scanner in the dock doe not work in snow leopard and HP advises to remove it.
There are 3 ways to scan : via image capture, via preview and when choosing printer in the system settings (left tab 'scanner'). Apparently all built in in snow leopard.
Hope this helps if you did not find the solution yet
