I just bought an HP Photosmart D5460 and the software set-up won't install the software (neither from the disc or the downloaded version.) I have the right stuff - The setiup Wizard launcehs and gets through three pages, but won't go beyond the Install button page of the install wizard and won't "set-up". The manual says to NOT PLUG IN THE USB Cable to the computer until the set-up software Prompts You. The only problem is it doesn't prompt you - it doesn't see any devices if the printer isn't plugged and won't install the software w/ the printer plugged in. What to do? I am running Mac OS X 10.4.11

I am having a similar problem wih my new D5460. I am using Vista Ultimate 32 bit and after trying to install it with the factory disc, then trying two other drivers Hp offered for a fix, the computer and printer simply don't recognize each other. Noting comes up in my printer box showing the new D5460. My older D5300 still shows up. It appears the USB port doesn't "see" the connection.. I even tried other USB cables and ports, then tried other computers running XP Home - all to no avail.
This printer is out of warranty, even though I bought it from HP direct. I was unable to attempt connecting it until now due to serious health problems. Taught me to get something installed in a timely manner. The printer was removed from the box and packing yesterday for the very first time. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
