Apparently the REPLY button does not quote the message one replies to!

The last message was for alk27 and Garking and the larger intent of the message is clearly to HP.

HERE Is the ANSWER:  SCANNING is not longer supported so toss your all-in-ones in the trash boys and girls.  Ever wonder how Fiorina earns the big bucks.  The ethics of a hound dog!

Re: Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner not found.)

But it will work with OSX 10.6 so for those who have the old Power Mac towers in perfect working order like me and have not upgraded to an INTEL processor as yet, we're SOL!

There is something fundamentally wrong with this as well HP will not speak to us sorry suckers unless the device is under warrantee, so they obsolete ya' and ignore ya'.

And why do I stay with HP products?

Re: Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner not found.)

having the same issue on my macbook, running 10.5.8. I still have an old imac running 10.4.1 and the scanner is working fine on that one. Will upgrading the system solve the problem?

Re: Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner not found.)

Maybe, but it depends on what printer you have.

Re: Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner not found.)

Hello! I hope you found your fix, but it you haven't here's what I've done

I've done all that previous users has said

Reinstalled software

Delete all of HP

ETC

What I then tried is my scannner (4580) I just pressed on the screen "scan to PC"

and HP scanner opended!

then it worked!

I reopended the program and it worked again.

I guess it needs like a lil boost from Printer to PC.

CHeers! :smileyhappy:

I am having the exact same problem with a MAC.  Did you find a solution?  I tried downloading a driver package for it, but it still doesn't work!!!

Re: Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner not found.)

I was experiencing this same issue, and the following solution worked for me.

I have a 13" Macbook, running Mac OS X 10.6.7.

My printer is an HP Deskjet F4180 All-in-One.

I did the following:

Removed the HP software totally by using the HP uninstaller (Applications>Hewlett-Packard)

Performed a software update, which included HP printer software from Apple.

Restarted computer.

Installed the HP software from here.

Reset printing system (System Preferences>Print & Fax>Right click inside of the white box where printers are listed>select 'reset printing system)

Turned the printer off.

Plugged the usb cable from the printer into another usb port.

Turned the printer back on.

Added the printer (System Preferences>Print & Fax>Click on the plus sign)

Added the printer again. The mac will ask if you are sure you want to do this. Say yes. You will have your printer listed twice. Strange I know, but it worked out.

The HP Software did not work for me. Instead, use Image Capture (Applications>Image Capture) or Preview to interface with the scanner.

Prepare a tissue to wipe your tears of joy... or sadness if it still doesn't work for you.

This method didn't work until the redundant addition of the printer under Print & Fax settings. Perhaps the OS is seeing the printer and scanner as two separate devices? Hopefully this works for someone else.

Good luck!
