Two-sided printing problem with a Photosmart 6510

I have a new Photosmart 6510 and it is supposed to come with automatic two-sided printing.

I have tried printing two-sided and followed the advice of many previous thread but it has not worked.

I am using a Mac OS X version 10.5.8 and Microsoft Word 2008.

When I go to the drop-down menu in the Print window and go to 'two-sided printing' the option to print both sides is greyed out, and it says that the paper type and size settings do not support two-sided printing. What size paper should I select and where can I do this?

Any help would be great.

Hi,

Please try the following settings:

1.From the application used to print, click the File menu, then select Print. The Print window appears.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized. Click the blue triangle next to the printer name to see all available settings.

2. To select the binding type click the lowest selection box listed as Copies & Pages.

3. Select Layout from the drop-down menu.

4. Set the Two-Sided option as Long-Edge binding.

If I'm not wrong, the duplexer support only A4 and Letter sizes

You may save the settings for future use by clicking Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset...

Please let me know if you were able to successfully perform two-sided printing.

Unfortunately, when I go to the Layout option the "two-sided" section is greyed out and I can see that its default is "off"

Hi,

I have the exact same problem with my 6510 as well. However, its not just the msword2008, pdf and textedit could not print double-side as well.

The problem is as described by holly; the option for selecting two-sided printing is greyed out!

I had the same problem (same MacOS and everything) and just got off the phone with Tech support and, together, we found a solution.

In the print window that pops up after you select File>Print, select Paper Handling. Click in the check box to select "Scale to fit paper size". That allows you to select the Destination Paper Size. Select from the pull-down menu US Letter, then US Letter Two-sided margins. Now when you go to Two-sided Printing, you can click on the check box to select Print Both Sides. But before you click "Print", save the whole thing as a Preset so that it's much quicker to do it next time!

Thanks Rae1996. The solution worked for me as well. My HP tech-support could not solve this issue. They actually suggested that I upgrade my mac OS. I don't understand how the support experience could be so varied! - Baskar-BioTech

I used these settings in Mac Word but received the message "The paper type and paper size selected is not supported for two-sided printing."

What other settings should I use for paper type and paper size?
