Re: Unable to duplex print Mac OsX Snow Leopard on CM2320 fxi MFP ColorLaserjet

[ Edited ]

Hal, you have to install not the latest, but the 20090209 version (linked above) of the firmware. The latest is actually the one that is causing that problem! I know, sounds weird, but i think this is still the only working solution right now...

Re: Unable to duplex print Mac OsX Snow Leopard on CM2320 fxi MFP ColorLaserjet

I tried download the firmware, but it doesn't work! I tried network connection and USB, under XP and Win7, running the firmware 'downgrade', but the firmware remains as the new one after the process. What can I do?

Re: Unable to duplex print Mac OsX Snow Leopard on CM2320 fxi MFP ColorLaserjet

Is the firmware or the OS driver the issue?  I have this same issue - duplexing stopped working.  I believe my duplexing capability "broke" with the latest HP automated update distributed via Mac Updates in 06/10.  Do the automatic updates automatically update the firmware of the printer - I thought they only updated the drivers?

Will get into the office tomorrow and document all my revisions.

HP support has been NO HELP on this - I bought my printer just over a year ago and I'm being advised that the only support available is via email.  Very frustrating.  Can't even PAY for better support - which I would gladly do to get duplexing again!

Firmware v20100616 Fixes Mac OSX Duplexing Issue

Duplexing on Mac fixed with firmware 20100616!  Very happy this morning!

In my attempt to download the previous version of the firmware per the advice in this thread, I actually found the new revision.  Version 20100616 of the firmware is available on the public HP drivers website under Windows 7 x86 - as of 07/18/2010 the firmware is NOT listed on when you select OSX.

I downloaded and applied via a Windows 7 VM and my duplexing issue is resolved when printing from my Macs.

Thanks mbanyard, great stuff.  Sounds very promising and I will give it a go this weekend when I have the chance.  John

Re: Firmware v20100616 Fixes Mac OSX Duplexing Issue

I have upgraded firmware to v20100616, but under OS X 10.6.4 with all the updates (including the HP driver update), have HP Director installed, I still cannot print double sided. This is very frustrating.

BTW, I tried to download the firmware, but failed to using WinXP VM.

Re: Firmware v20100616 Fixes Mac OSX Duplexing Issue

The solution discussed above is only for windows how to do it on mac if we only have mac. I am unable to succeed in this. I think HP need to issue new firmware for mac.  This is HP work

Re: Firmware v20100616 Fixes Mac OSX Duplexing Issue

I would also like to confirm mbanyard's solution. Firmware 20100616 does allow/re-enable duplex printing on the Mac, but does require the upgrade through Windows (Windows 7).

I used 32-bit Windows 7 via Parallels 6 VM. Here is the procedure that I followed:

1) Turn on the printer and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before performing this procedure, so the printer has time to warm up and perform it's own self-diagnostic that seems to occur within 5 minutes of turning on.

2) Fire up the Windows 7 VM. I connected the printer USB directly into the computer (and not via a USB hub), to hopefully not add any extra USB confusions.

3) Once Win 7 was up and running, I virtually connected the printer into the USB of the VM (essentially giving Win 7 full control of the printer). Win 7 tried to load it's own drivers, but failed...this seemed okay.

4) I went to the HP Software/Drivers site and downloaded the new firmware (v20100616) and printer drivers/software:

{Search via CM2320fxi and select the 32-bit Win 7 versions of the software}

CM1312_CM2320_MFP_Series_FW_Update-20100616.exe (saved to Desktop)

There were several versions of the system printer driver/software, I downloaded the first one:

CM2320series-win7-full-solution-AM-EMEA1-v3.1.exe (saved to Desktop)

5) I ran the system printer/software installer. It took several minutes once the software began to load itself (~15-20 minutes maybe). At some mid-point, the Win OS loaded the drivers, and the Printer Installer was still installing software. Eventually it all loaded and offered me to print a test page...Test page turned out good for me (it was the basic Windows OS Printer test page).

So far success...I have Windows properly recognizing the CM2320fxi within the OS and I can print to the printer from the Win OS. Now to attempt the firmware update...

6) I fired up the Firmware updater. I selected the CM2320 from the pull down and selected the start/begin button. The status bar began to progress and on the printer LCD, it stated that it was "Erasing" with a status on the LCD. Eventually, the printer LCD said programming. The VM "dropped" the printer from the virtual USB connection about halfway through the status progress bar of the Win Firmware app status bar and the printer LCD was still showing "Programming" with the status bar continuing to progress. I didn't do anything and just let everything progress on its own (ie I DIDN'T attempt to virtually reconnect the USB printer to the VM). I kept my eyes on the printer LCD and when the status bar reached completion and the printer physically restarted itself. Upon restart and initial startup, I manually printed a status page and it showed the new firmware version number. Meanwhile, the Win Firmware app completed it's own status progress bar and gave me a "happy face". Also the Parallels virtual USB automatically reconnected the printer when it restarted up.

7) I "virtually" disconnected the printer from the WIndows VM via the VM USB control. Before you test it on the Mac side, you might want to double check and make sure that the Mac printer driver has duplexing enabled. [via System Preferences -> Print & Fax -> Select HP LaserJet CM2320 MFP -> Select Options & Supplies -> Driver -> Ensure "Duplex Unit" is checked.] Within MS Word on the Mac side, I printed a two-sided page and happily, to was automatically duplexed. SUCCESS!!!

Sorry, I don't have any sort of fix/procedures if you don't have a Win 7 VM or a Win hardware CPU to perform this procedure.

Best of luck!

Re: Unable to duplex print Mac OsX Snow Leopard on CM2320 fxi MFP ColorLaserjet

Same problem here.   Did everything in the instructions, and still duplexing does not work.

The printer is a network hp4250  connected to a network of linuxes and macs.  Duplexing from the linux machines works fine, but not from the mac.  When I send a duplex document the printer just hangs there, saying "processing duplexing job" forever.  I have to cycle power, so other jobs can be printed.  After cycling power, I get the back page of my document printed.

My take on this is that we have a driver problem, not a firmware problem, since the other machines use duplexing fine.  But I haven´t been able to find a driver that works.  Last night I downloaded the huge (387MB) package of HP drivers from Apple, installed it, and NOTHING!   same problem persists.
