When I had Mac OS Leopard (10.5.8), I had no problem scanning from my wireless HP 310a All-In-One printer, I just push the scan button on my printer and it's done. Since I upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6.7), I can no longer do that. I get a message on my printer saying I need to scan it from my computer, meaning I have to click the HP Scan shortcut in my iMac that came with the HP software. How do I adjust this so I can scan from my printer again?

You probably can't. This functionality does not work most of the time with Snow Leopard, sorry.

I've got the same problem now. Photosmart 4599 prints and copies fine but won't scan via any means. Updated the drivers, rebooted, tried all 3 scan options...nothing works. Read your suggestions in re this problem elsewhere on the forum (delete, reinstall with install disc, etc.). Not how a Mac is supposed to work.
So here's a thought. Y'all get together with Apple and make the scan function work simply and easily, plug n' play, like it's supposed to, and like it did before Snow Leopard, and the next time I buy an all-in-one maybe it'll still be an HP. Otherwise I'll buy a Canon.
Tell the suits it's called putting the customer first.

You likely have remnants of old HP software on your Mac. This is a bit much, but do this and it should work:
1. Install the "wrong (for Snow Leopard)" software from the CD.
2. Uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall <<<< Scrubber Option
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
3. Restart your Mac
4. Run a Software Update.
Finally, download and install the "Full Featured" Driver and Software from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page. Do not use the CD!!!

Hi there, just getting around to SnowLeopard but am now having this problem. I can't find my HP CD. Is there a way to do this work around without the CD?
Thanks for your patience,
Dot

Hi Dot
Yes, you can.
Here is a link to the 10.5 installer, you should only use to get uninstaller and do the "scrubbing"
and here is the link to correct 10.6 drivers
