Mac OS 10.6.8; Photosmart 7510
I have to power off and on every time I need to print a document. I can connect to the printer via the HP Utility, but if I send a document to print from my mac, I receive a printer offline message. This is so frustrating! I'm about ready to get a 100 ft USB cable and say to heck with wireless printing forever.

What router? What version of OS X?

Mac OS 10.6.8, Comcast Internet, Linksys Router.
If it's asleep, it won't print at all. I have reinstalled the software. Sometimes when I use the HP Utility it can see the printer but still not print. Other times it can't see the device and won't print (obviously). This is so frustrating…I buy a new printer, I'm unable to call anywhere for technical support…I really like the HP features, but if I can't get it to work wirelessly it's a useless piece of plastic sitting on my desk.

On the front of the printer: Setup (wrench icon) > Preferences > Auto Off > Off.

It already is set to auto-off. Found that tip on the forum but it hasn't made a difference. I restored the printer to factory defaults, re-installed the software and it's still doing the same thing.

Let's set a static IP address for the printer:
- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). Yours is 192.168.1.100 to .149. Let's use 192.168.1.200 for your printer.
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
- Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose another external DNS if you wish.
- Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

I discovered that my wi fi was not enabled. I forgot to enable wi fi when plugging in the ethernet cable when at my desk - so was not on same network as my printer - - ![]()
