Workaround for scanner for HP 3055 running OSX Lion 10.7?

Do you have a workaround for the HP Laserjet 3055/3050 all-in-one scanning ability for Mac OSX Lion 10.7?

I am hitting the wall trying to find out how to enable the scanner to work?

You may try the following workaround, although i cannot guarantee it will work and may not be stable as expected:

Enter System Preferences > Print & Scan, select the 3050 printer ant then click the Minus sign to remove it.

Download the Mac OS 10.5 installation below by clicking the download button:

Make sure to skip the Setup Assistant and follow the steps till the installation completes.

Perform the following steps in order to provide the Setup Assistant the right permissions to complete on Lion:

1. From the Utilities folder, open the Terminal
2. Type “sudo “ (with space) in the Terminal.
3. Locate the HP Setup Assistant in folder Applications/HP LaserJet Software
4. Right-click (Or CTRL + Letf click from the Apple keyoard) the HP Setup Assistant and choose “Show Package Contents”.
5. Open the “Contents” folder and then the “MacOS” folder. It should contain the Unix Executable File of HP Setup Assistant.
6. Drag the HP Setup Assistant (Unix Executable File) into the Terminal and press enter. Terminal will ask for the password of the user.
7. After writing the password press Enter Button.

Now follow the Setup Assistant Steps to complete.

Many, many thanks for this solution! It worked. The HP LaserJet 3055 will now scan and print!

I followed your instructions and they were easy to follow. Here's how I finished the process:

1. Closed Terminal after the HP dialog box (dbx) finished completing.

2. HP Director came up and I tried hitting the "scan" button. Nothing worked.

3. I remembered someone saying that you need to "open and close the HP Director several times".

4. After opening and closing the HP Director about 3 times, it said "waiting for PC" after hitting my Scan button on the LaserJet 3055.

5. Finally, the HP Scan dbx came up and started scanning the document. A very good thing.

6. I tried PDF, JPEG and other functions of the scan and they all worked.

7. The scanner is much, much faster with the iMac i7 than the old Win XP that I replaced. The old PC took about 5 minutes for each scan. The iMac takes about 20-30 seconds for text scanning. Excellent... Color photos are a little longer but still much, much less time than with XP.

I can't tell you how appreciative I am with your instructions. I spent half of the afternoon on Google and HP's site to try and find a solution. Your solution was spot-on.

I followed these instructuctions.  Typed "sudo " in the Terminal  When I drag the excutable file of the HP Setup Assistant into the Terminal and press enter I get   " No such file or directory" 

Not sure what is going on. Any ideas? Thanks

The saga continues. When I upgraded to Mountain Lion (OS 10.8) from Lion, I lost scanning capability. When I tried ShlomiL's work-around (4-23-2012) (which worked in Lion), I had 2 problems. First, after deleting the HP all-in-one  printer software package, when trying to re-install the package, the install routine repeatedly failed, citing missing files. I then restored the previous installation of the HP software using Time Machine and continued ShlomiL's solution using the Sudo command. The HP Setup Assistant could not find/recognize the Laserjet 3055 via either the USB connection or the network connection.

Has anyone managed to establish scanning functionality with the 3055 and Mountain Lion?

i found the old "library preferences com hp laster jet aio plist from a friends computer.  and placed it in the system, library, preference pan

when i open up the the hp director everything is greyed out

can you please shed some insight on this

i have a mac mini using system 10.7.5
