Re: changing wireless connection

I was remembering wrong - a friend had once chided me for using WEP, so it is WPA2, and has a 21 character password of my own devise.

Re: changing wireless connection

Dang, I thought we were on to something!

What version of OS X are you using?  Where did you get the hp software?

Re: changing wireless connection

I JUST upgraded to Snow Leopard, but this was not working before that.  I figured since I just did a major update, I may as well try to get this working, since I won't be updating anytime real soon. I'm running 10.6.4 - when I did the first set of software updates after installing Snow Leopard, there was a substantial HP Printer software update that I did (after doing THAT I can no longer use my scanner - a whole different story).  Originally I used the disc that came with the printer, I think, though its possible I downloaded a package from the HP site.  It may be worthwhile to just remove all the HP stuff and try again from scratch.. ?

Re: changing wireless connection

Yup.  Remove it with the 'scrubber' option like this:

Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish

Restart your Mac

Now, run a Software Update.

Next, remove and re-install the printer in System Preferences, Print & Fax.

You do not need the software now since Snow Leopard has both print & scan drivers built-in. Scan from Preview or Image Capture apps. Scanning from the front panel of the printer does not yet work.

Re: changing wireless connection

Done - but now I don't have the HP setup assistant, so am unsure how to setup the wireless feature of the printer.

Re: changing wireless connection

Ooops, my mistake.  You could connect the printer with Wifi Protected Setup (WPS) but I don't think your router supports it.

So, you will need the software to install the printer.  Here is the correct software for 10.6.

Re: changing wireless connection

That was it - it is an older 4500 series, not 4700, but I caught that before downloading - its all back up and running now, thanks Doc!
