deskjet 3000 j310a doesn't work with Snow Leopard

I have a dj 3000 j310a wireless printer. Until recently it was working OK with Win XP, Win 7 and Mac Leopard computers. After I upgraded the Mac system to Snow Leopard I cannot print wirelessly from Mac. I used HP installer to re-install the newest driver. I tried to manually configure the printer with a static IP. I deleted all the printers from Mac System Preferences, deleted all print queues, and installed everything from zero. Nothing works. When I try to make the printer print Mac responds after a longer while that the IP address of printer is busy. Still I can log in to the printer setup tool by typing printer's current IP address, and print a test page from there (although the printing is very slow then).

I am out of ideas. Can anyone help?

Re: deskjet 3000 j310a doesn't work with Snow Leopard

Make sure you downloaded and installed the software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page, not from a CD!  Download and re-install if that is what happened.

Download and install this: support.apple.com/kb/DL907

Finally, reset the printing system:

- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Re: deskjet 3000 j310a doesn't work with Snow Leopard

Thanks for advice - I applied them, unfortunately with no success.

1. I followed & installed the link on the Apple page

2. I was already using fresh HP drivers from HP web site before but re-installed it again

3. I did reset of the printing system

When trying to install wireless printer using HP setup I got the message:

"device not reachable
The network configuration was successfully downloaded to the device. However to continue configuring the device in network, your Mac must have access to the device. So please make sure that your Mac has access to the Network and retry."

This is despite the printer WAS logged to the network and was visible on the wireless router.

When doing 'add printer' from System Preferences menu the printer did not pop up. In fact sometimes it pops up for a while but then dissappears.

When adding printer manually as an IP printer, with a fixed IP address - everything appears OK - the printer is added correctly to the printer list. Just when I try to print I get the message that the 'network host is busy'.

What router are you using? Have you restarted it by pulling its power plug momentarily?

Re: deskjet 3000 j310a doesn't work with Snow Leopard

Well, pulling the plug from the router appears to have helped - at least somehow :-).

I have Cisco/Linksys WAG120N.

I unplugged the router, deleted the network printer setup, plugged the router again and checked if Mac would now detect the printer.

It didn't. I configured the printer manually, and tried to print - with no success ('network host is busy').

I unplugged and re-plugged the router again. Tried to print again. No success. But,... this time in the print menu, on the printer drop down list, Mac has indicated that it sees a "new" printer in the neighbourhood (that was of course still the same old DJ3000). I confirmed to configure this instance of DJ3000. Mac correctly proceeded with the print job.

The print behaviour is not fully stable though. Sometimes Mac still communicates that the 'network host is busy' but re-starting the printer helps.

The extra positive side is that now Excel files do get printed, previously with OS X 10.5, I could never print excel files - I had to trasform them to pdf first.

So thanks for help! Now I have a working solution. Still have no idea what caused the problem.
