Accepted Solution

envy 100 and osx 10.6.

Scanner only creates a black page. Envy is connected to iMac via usb cable. Document & photo printing is excellent. It simply will not scan. Have uninstalled all HP software. Reinstalled from original disc. Upgraded software and all firmware via HP website. No improvement. Have tried initiating scan from HP utility icon & Scan 3 icon. No change.

Cannot use device front panel to copy...again only black page.

I've seen this problem throughout the forum, but have not found a solution. Are we all making the same mistake somewhere?? Thanks!

Re: envy 100 and osx 10.6.

If it also does not make a copy, the scanner has died. This is how to contact HP support: www.hp.com/go/totalcare (click on Printers & Monitors).

Re: envy 100 and osx 10.6.

Not sure I fully agree with that assessment yet. You can hear the scanner arm moving and the scan is sent to the computer...it just comes back as a black page.

If you select "copy" from the device control panel, you can hear the scanner arm moving and the printer will begin to print...it just prints a full page of black.

There seems to be a lot of users on this forum with the exact same problem. Do ALL of us have devices that are failing?

Re: envy 100 and osx 10.6.

When using the copy function, there is no software or printer interface involved at all, it is all internal to the printer. So, if making a copy fails, the scanner has failed.

The scanner arm may indeed move, but if something in the optics path has blown that is also considered a scanner failure.

Did you reset the printer?  With it ON and in a resting state, unplug the power from the back of the printer for 30 seconds.

Re: envy 100 and osx 10.6.

Thank you, Dean. I will try the "reset" when I get home this evening. While I have turned it off & on and rebooted my iMac, I have not attempted to "pull the plug". Will definitely give this a shot and report back later.

Re: envy 100 and osx 10.6.

I have the same problem and have tried to unplug - but without luck.

Scanning has been working fine for almost a year. Recently there was an HP update for OS 10.6. However, I have the same black print when I try to make a copy on the Envy 100, so it doesn't explain my problem.

This is how to contact HP support: www.hp.com/go/totalcare (click on Printers & Monitors, there is a phone number on the resulting page).

Re: envy 100 and osx 10.6.

Actually contacted HP total care in January after I was unable to resolve the problem. The tech was the best I've ever dealt with for any of my "electronicals" (as my wife calls any of my electronic devices). He had me try a number of things; each to no avail. His conclusion was the same as Dean's: the scanner has failed. three days later I had a new, replacement scanner that has worked perfectly. I simply shipped my broken scanner back to HP in the container provided. Thanks HP.

Re: envy 100 and osx 10.6.

I have had my ENVY 100 for one year plus a few days when it I saw it had stopped copying/scanning.

HP refused my warranty claim for that reason.

I bought the HP printer together with my iMac via AppleStore.dk. I contacted Apple and at first they also said one year warranty. However, in Denmark we can make a complaint within the first 2 years - and now my printer is replaced with an ENVY 110. No cost - but quite some time spent on communication and packing. Apple handled my case correctly!
