ag62,

Try this mehtod:

Run the HP Scan application and scan the item. Then in the lower right click edit and select crop. Adjust the image to what you need and then click the send button to save the altered file in a location of your choosing. Let me know if it helps. Best of luck!

Hi,

In order to scan directly from the front panel you need to have the full feature software installed. as the specific option is missing, is seems as only the basic software was installed. please follow the steps below to resolve the problem:

Download and install the software below.

During the isntallation, make sure to select HP Recommended Software.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL40131/mp-97865-2/Officejet-Pro-8600-series_v12.14.0.dmg

After completing the installation update the latest drivers by clicking the Apple icon and then Software Update.

Make sure to select any available HP Update.

Now you should see the Scan to Computer setting and you should be able to scan from the printer front panel.

Please let me know of any problem,

Shlomi

Hi!

I bought a the above printer and was having problems scanning to my computer also. I did download the software suggested here and everything worked well! Until I decided to download on my iMac here at home too. The only printer that shows on the printer's front panel is the iMac . . the Macbook Pro has dissapeared from the list! When I open the HP Utility, it does say that "scan to computer" is enabled but it still doesn't come up on the printers listed on the printer's panel. PLEASE send any suggestions . . I have wasted another afternoon with no results!

When I select the crop tool the cursor is a fist not a pointer to select the area I wish to scan.

Your solution did not work for me. The version of SW accessible through your link was for OS 10.7 and earlier. When I downloaded the latest software, it ran just fine under Mountain Lion (10.8). However, under scan (in the HP Utilities), there is NO OPTION to scan to computer. When I open the HP Utility (on my computer), there is NO option to scan to computer (only scan to email and scan to network folder.

In addition, after installing the HP printer software there is a HP Scan icon (under launchpad). Everytime I select it, however, it just crashes and gives me a very long crash report - the first few lines of which are:

Process: HP Scan 3 [635]
Path: /Applications/Hewlett-Packard/HP Scan 3.app/Contents/MacOS/HP Scan 3
Identifier: com.hp.scan.app
Version: 4.0.50 (114)
Code Type: X86-64 (Native)
Parent Process: launchd [133]
User ID: 501

Date/Time: 2012-10-27 15:34:03.672 -0500
OS Version: Mac OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)
Report Version: 10

Any idea what I should try next? I can print from my computer and iOS devices. I can also copy from the scanner bed AND I can scan to a memory device plugged into the USB port.

Thanks in advance,

I'm having the same problem, but I'm on Mac OS  X 10.8.2. The instructions you give for 10.6.8 don't work for me. I get an "unsupported above 10.7" error message. I just bought this printer and need to set up Scanning.

Thanks,

MsCGreene
