Re: hp 3050 scanner is not working on Mac Lion

Hi pekidi,

What is the exact error you get when scanning? Are you trying to scan with Image Capture or HP Scan software?

How is your Deskjet 3050 connected to the Mac?

Please make sure you use the latest software from HP in Lion: HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers - OS X v10.7

Addtionally you may install the Critical Update for HP Utility crashing issue: Critical Update to fix Scan to Computer issue on Mac OS X v10.7

Best regards,
Mandy

Re: hp 3050 scanner is not working on Mac Lion

HI Dejan,

Sorry to hear about your problem, I believe the previous comment was wrongly reflecting to the Deskjet 3050 model and not to your model..

Officially, the Laserjet 3050 no longer support scanning since Mac OS X 10.6, as you may find listed by Apple, only print drivers provided through the Apple Software Update:

9.JPG

As a workaround, you may try installing the Mac OS X 10.5 software by using a terminal command to bypass some OS incompatibility, but I must add that any of the steps below may be followed by your own risk, as the software does not supposed to work on Lion and was not tested, although it should work by my experience:

Enter System Preferences > Print & Scan, select the 3050 printer ant then click the Minus sign to remove any existing print queue.

Download the Mac OS 10.5 installation below by clicking the download button:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18...

Skip the Setup Assistant and follow the steps till the installation will finish.

Perform the following steps in order to provide the Setup Assistant the right permissions to complete:
1. Open Terminal from the Utilities folder
2. Type “sudo “ (with space) in the Terminal.
3. Locate the HP Setup Assistant in folder Applications/HP LaserJet Software
4. Right-click the HP Setup Assistant and choose “Show Package Contents”.
5. Open the “Contents” folder and then click “MacOS” folder. It should contain the Unix Executable File of HP Setup Assistant.
6. Drag the HP Setup Assistant (Unix Executable File) into the Terminal and press enter. Terminal will ask for the password of the user.
7. After writing the password press Enter Button.

Now follow the Setup Assistant Steps to complete the installation and try scanning by using the HP Scan Application.

Hope it helps,

Shlomi

Re: hp 3050 scanner is not working on Mac Lion

Are you getting any specific error message while running the HP Director and then launching the HP Scan application?

Re: hp 3050 scanner is not working on Mac Lion

[ Edited ]

I found a work around to make the scanner work. Its not 100% reliable, app still crashes sometimes, but it does work.

Print a blank page from a word document (type any letter and delete it, otherwise it gives a "nothing to print" error). Now open the HP director app and scan. I am able to scan several different documents without having to reprint a blank page each time.

Don't do anything else while scanning and save immediately to desktop.  Most crashes that I experienced was when navigating to a save location.

Re: hp 3050 scanner is not working on Mac Lion

Followed all of the suggestions byShlomi. DEvice is not being recognized by the Set Up assistant. It does not make a difference if I open the Set Up Assistant in Terminal Mode or not. I tried turning device on then off and re plugging USB cable in, still is not being "seen".
