Now the printer is acting funny. It doesn't go to sleep and keeps asking to insert a memory card as if it were scanning. But I'm not scanning. Also I can't find the applications for scanning, or other apps that used to be included. I have downloaded the latest HP software from the Mac Software update, but I can't find the OCR or other stuff for scanning on my computer. It does seem to be printing okay.

Hi,
For your product, a Full Feature Software Solution no longer available for Lion.
Therefore OCR is not included as part of the HP Software and you will need to use any 3rd party OCR software for this purpose.
The scan functionality provided by the Mac OS Scanning applications only, as you may find listed below:

Thanks Shlomi for your reply. But why is my printer not going to sleep anymore and why does it keep asking for my scanning memory card? And why does it start scanning on its own without my asking it to do so? Does this have anything to do with Lion or is it just time for a new printer?
Thanks,
shaiz

Hi shaiz,
Those are a good questions indeed.
In order to figure if the issues are related (Although I believe they aren't), try unplugging the USB from the printer.
Power cycle the printer while the printer not connected to any computer, it will allow us to better understand if any item affect the device or is it an hardware issue.
Please let me know what happens than,
Shlomi

Dear Shlomi,
I unplugged the USB plug (the C4680 printer was off at the time) and then turned it on. The little touch screen on the left, above the power switch seemed to be doing the same thing. It would show the scan/photo/ copy choices, then it would switch to scanning choices, then it would go to copying choices. Right now, it is spontaneously starting to make a copy (I cancelled the action). Eventually, I just turned off the power.
What do you think? Is it time to get a new printer.
Thanks and Kol Tuv,
shaiz

Hi Shai,
Just to confirm the USB unplugging didn't affect the device somehow as it seems a bit strange reaction,
Please unplug the power both from the print and the power socket and keep it unplugged for 30 seconds.
Make sure the USB unplugged as well.
Plug only the power back and check if the same persists.. Even further It's worth plugging the power into different power socket to deny any possible affect on the printer.
If the same persists after this action, I affraid it is the time for a new printer indeed

Shlomi
