Re: hp scan 3 crashes a few seconds after i hit the scan button - OS 10.6.8 - Deskjet 1050

I've been reading these posts because this has been happening to me as well (for months), but the problem is the posts just end.  Is there an update?  And for the HP guy:  when I'm looking for updates on the HP website where do I go to find them?   I tried looking for HP SCAN 3 update, but cannot locate it.

Thanks for any help.

You can always look at your printer's support page using the "Support & Drivers" button at the top of this page.

There was a software update last month: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=dj-96583-5&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...

i tried the re-install as well. still doesn't work. and it doesn't help that the software on the disc is not the most-up-to-date, i downloaded the latest version from HP. still nothing works. thanks, HP. make a product that doesn't function universally then ignore people who are trying to find a solution. i shall never, ever buy anything from a company whose customer service is purely a forum where disgruntled customers get to write out their problem with preciosu little hope of a solution.

Same problem and I can't believe it's been months and nobody at HP has found the solution. I needed to scan an important job document so it was very annoying.  Please resolve ASAP

Re: hp scan 3 crashes a few seconds after i hit the scan button - OS 10.6.8 - Deskjet 1050

There was an update on Apple Software Update this morning for the HP Printer Drivers.

Did it solve the problem?

No.

Absolute joke.

Re: hp scan 3 crashes a few seconds after i hit the scan button - OS 10.6.8 - Deskjet 1050

Hi everyone!

SHAME on HP as they don't care about their customer's problems. I have seen the same problems you all talk about, HP Scan 3 crashing for no apparent reason and no way to make it work installing, reinstalling, updating software Mac OS X 10.6.8... I think  HP knows about this, as they released a fix for OS X Lion (10.7) but no 10.6. So thame on them, but I FOUND A SOLUTION.

Basically, forget about HP Scan 3... Go to "System Prefencences", choose Print & Fax... Choose the HP Deskjet 2050 from the list of installed printers and choose "Scan" tab on the right side of the same window. Click the "Open scanner..." button and here you go, you can start scanning.

SHAME ON HP again. Hope they remove this post, as it contains these words... Hope they remove it with the solution, hehe!

Take care!

Re: hp scan 3 crashes a few seconds after i hit the scan button - OS 10.6.8 - Deskjet 1050

Dear Print Doc "I am employed at HP",

Why have you posted a fix that only works for the Lion software?   Useing software update  is easier as you get the correct software strait off the bat.

But what's with the deminished scanning quality?    If I wanted a scan range of 600dpi I could easily use my 1980's HP scanner that does work on this mac.  But it's a faffle getting the ADB interface loaded and going through Photoshop is also a pain.

It clearly state on the box that the deskjet 1050A is a 1200 dpi scanner so why the lesser quality with your own software?

Also reading through your answers given.  Really you are an expert in this?  If I was yourself I would have suggested an informed solution to the problem.  Instructions for thoes using preview. Like where to find the scan mode (under the File menue...  Import from scanner).    As a Longterm HP user.  I have used both Mac and HP hardware out of choise for 25 years.  I even use a Laserjet 6mp thats old enough to still appear in your drivers menu.   So whats with the slow take up with these problems?  It's not like it's a new problem with your drivers for scanning.  Last year My PCS 1210 stopped being able to scan after performing a Driver Update suggested by Yourselfs. To make it more compatable with my imac and 10.7.  Instead of making it more compatable, It prevented it from scanning through the software bought from you with the Printer.    What support did I get like earlier this week.  Nothing much.   Your comuter is the problem... It's not set up correctly.   After 45 minuits of paying 5P per minuite £3 in premium calls to get support I did not receve.  I was simply told that the matter was resolved.   Resolved how?  I have to return it because it's not scanning correctly and only scanning & copying the page less 1" at the top and bottom.   I am truly puzzled by the decline of HP in recent years.  Giving premium charged services and not resolving the matter.  Opting instead to say return the item and closing the case yet failing to offer a return authorisation.

If I do do get a exchange.  Will this work as described or as a HP expert, will this not work.

One last note to consider.  When a customer calls your technical support (In warenty) and is directed to your Mac support desk.  I like other customers would presume that it's an important part of the whole customer service routeen, to have someone who uses the Apple platform of computers.  Who knows where things are and is not reading a scrypt and because it's not on there screen, cannot answer something simple that is cruical to there support.
