iMac does not recognize scan function of LaserJet Pro

My iMac has OS X v. 10.7.3.  It does not recognize the scan function of the HP LaserJet Pro M1217 nfw MFP that is wirelessly connected.  I can successfully print from the HP but the dialogue box does not incllude a scan option.  I cannot scan from Preview or iPhoto either (as suggested by some rsources).  I tried connecting the LaserJet by USB but that did not solve problem either.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled software, including HP PrinterDrivers.pkg.  I get automatic updates from Apple which have not helped.

Hi,

Scanning from preview or iPhoto does not supported for the product, It is only possible to scan using the HP Scan software.

In order to scan, use the HP Director application, located under Applications > HP LaserJet  Software.

Did you installed the printer using the latest drivers from the Web?

If you used the original CD, make sure to remove it by following the HP Uninstaller (Under the same HP folder) as the software version on the CD does not support Lion.

Next, download and install the latest drivers below:

Thank you for your response but I read on the HP website that HP Director is not supported in OS X 10.7.3 Lion.  Your suggested solution is to use the HP Director.

I appologize for any inconvinence,

The HP Director do supported by Lion for some specific models, including the M1217.

However, as mentioned above, only the latest software supported by Lion. any previous version of the software is not supported by the OS.

If you haven't installed the full feature softwatre attached to my previous post, please make sure to install it. It is compatible with Lion as you may find listed on the download page.

Compatibility: Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.5, Mac OS X 10.6, Mac OS X, Mac OS X 10.7 

I will appriciate if you may guide me where you seen the information that the HP Director is not supported by the OS, so i can take any possible action to get it corrected.

I visited both Apple and HP sites. I'lll look for the reference re: director.
