Re: my hp f4180 AIO works with my mac os lion but does not seem to have the flexible settings

Hi,

The driver do provide quality settings, however the layout is different:

Hi,
Follow the steps below in order to print using Black Ink only:

1. From the application used to print, click the File menu and select Print.
The Print window appears.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized: Click the Show Details button to see all available settings.

2. To access the color options, click the lowest selection box listed as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit)
Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.

3. Select Paper Type/Quality from the drop-down menu.

4. Click the triangle next to Color Options to expend the settings.

5. Set the Color field as Grayscale.
You may also set the Grayscale Mode as Black Ink Cartridge Only.

Additionally, you may also find the Print Quality settings within the same settings section.

In order to save the settings for future use, click Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset...

Shlomi

Re: my hp f4180 AIO works with my mac os lion but does not seem to have the flexible settings

Hi

Thanks for the answer. However #'s 4&5 are not present . I was able to see draft black and fast draft black and white etc. No triangle with color options or grayscale. I guess to get bact to color I must go into and reset default options. Also # 2 was not present

Re: my hp f4180 AIO works with my mac os lion but does not seem to have the flexible settings

Hi,

The settings may very while using different applications.

Please clarify what application you are printing from.

In the meantime, try printing from TextEdit (located under the Application folder).

Click the TextEdit dropdown and review the settings - can you see any different?

Teh color options should appear at the very bottom of the Paper Type/Quality section. You should click the small triangle next to it to expend it.

Shlomi

Re: my hp f4180 AIO works with my mac os lion but does not seem to have the flexible settings

Hi,

Please verify the latest driver is installed:

Aclick the Apple icon, then click Software Update.

Click Show Details and ensure to select any available HP Update.

By testing the same printer, I could locate the options as listed above:

  1. From TextEdit print dialog, click the TextEdit drop-down:
    1.jpg
  2. From the drop-down, select Paper Type/Quality.
Select the desired print quality from the Quality drop down and expend the Color Options by clicking the triangle next to Color Options:
    2.jpg
  3. Select Grayscale from the drop down menu and the Grayscale Mode as Black Print Cartridge Only:
    3.jpg
  4. You may save the preset by clicking the Preset dropdown and then Save as Preset

Regards,

Shlomi

Re: my hp f4180 AIO works with my mac os lion but does not seem to have the flexible settings

I tested pages numbers and textedit using os lion 10.7 and I do not get those options as you show in the screen shots. I went to hp for any updates and the HP website support referred me back to apple support to check for the specific updates for the printer fopr mac os lion. The up date search showed no new updates for the HP.

HP satated at the website that only apple was suppling the printer drivers for mac os lion.

I thank you for your respone. I would appreciate any other insights yoyu may have .
