Re: os x lion 10.7 printer problem

I'm too scared to do that. Right now my printer (OJPro 8500 wireless) is working pretty well by updating using the touch screen on the printer itself. I'm going to leave well enough alone until HP comes out with a real 10.7 update.

They will, won't they????

Re: os x lion 10.7 printer problem

What a nightmare.  I have a brand new Officejet 6500A connected to a new Time Capsule and I'm running OS 10.7 on a new Macbook Pro 2.3Ghz quad core.

I've been on the phone with Apple and HP support nearly every day since I installed 10.7 two weeks ago.

The wireless connection on the printer is completely unreliable. The printer doesn't wake from sleep when a print command is sent wirelessly. I tried setting the printer's IP address manually and that didn't solve the problem. So I'm stuck connecting via USB cord, which does seem to work fine. But that's not what I expected when I bought a wireless printer.

Even more galling than the printer problems is the bullsh*t blame game going on between Apple and HP over the lack of updated HP drivers for OS 10.7.  HP blames Apple and says they didn't get the 10.7 code until after 10.7 ws released. Apple says that is baloney and that they gave HP and all other developers the code many months ago. Who to believe? Doesn't really matter when the printer cannot be made to work properly.

Supposedly HP is very slowly releasing new drivers that will patch the problems with 10.7.  But why is it taking so long to get the drivers released?

Absolutely inexcusable on both Apple and HP's part. Not being ready with the proper drivers to ensure that printers work after a major OS upgrade?!?! Not having the drivers weeks later?!?!  HP not being able to even say when they will be ready?!?!

If I were running HP I'd be firing someone right now. Though this kind of ineptitude and insensitivity to the customer is often a symptom of something amiss in the corporate leadership. Bad attitude generally flows from the top of a company.

I hope Wall Street starts shorting the heck out of HP stock.

Re: os x lion 10.7 printer problem

My wireless Office Jet Pro 8500 was up and working flawlessly prior to updating to 10.7.  My printer would only copy.  The laptop told me software was all updated, but I wasn't of course. Finally, I found an update for the printer while poking around on the touch screen on the printer itself.

The printer started working after updating. Now, when I use the scanner, the communication page says There is no connection, but if I go from Status to Scan Tasks and select PDF or whatever and then select TEST and it WORKS! It scans the documents to a file on the laptop or to email. I have not tried the Edit tab yet. That's no way to run software, all these workarounds.

Re: os x lion 10.7 printer problem

Recently, the printer was acting totally futzy.  I deleted the printer from my laptop, unplugged the printer and restarted the laptop. Then I turned everything back on and I reloaded the printer driver from the HP site. It works very well now.

I am using Lion on a Macbook Pro. Hope your printer starts working, so nice when it does.

Re: os x lion 10.7 printer problem

I am trying to install a HP Photosmart C6283 on my desktop running lion 10.7. The CD that came with the printer will not install the drivers (post above says it is not compatable). If I try to add printer as suggested above no printers are listed in the add printer box. I have recently checked for updates - nothing. When I check the libray for printer drivers there is a directry for HP with an arrow indicating there should be sub directries / files but none are there. I'm now at a total loss as to how to get this printer installed. Any ideas please.

Re: os x lion 10.7 printer problem

Download and install this: support.apple.com/kb/DL907

Reset the printing system:

- Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

If that does not work, read this: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02911238&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=219&product=3308...

Re: os x lion 10.7 printer problem

Hi Thanks for the help. Maybe I am one step closer. I have downloaded and installed the files, I can now see plenty of driver files in the printer library. The problem is when i go to print & scan there is still nothing listed in the rectangle. I have tried a restart both with and without the printer plugged into the usb, I've also tried another software update. Nothing. I've read the suggested help links 10 times, nothing threre to help. Any other idea's?
