printing problems with photosmart c4280

the printheads keep getting clogged up and not printing their respective colors....in particular cyan & magenta...i have to keep cleaning them....and recently, even after that they're not perfectly clean...at first, i thought it was defective cartridges....i replaced several....but, the problem persists....also, software frequently shows error messages that cartridges either aren't present or that they're hot official HP cartridges....i'm using HP cartridges....i'm starting to think the problem might be with the printer...i just reinstalled the latest driver...any recommendations?...
