Hi,
I'm trying to install the HP Deskjet D1460 printer on my Mac OS X version 10.4.11. I have followed the instructions, inserted the cdrom, clicked on the install button, written my password, then chosen the language and device. Then nothing happens. The instructions say I am supposed to accept the licence and then wait for the printer to be installed, but that box never appears. The printer is connected to my computer via a USB cable. The cdrom says it accepts versions 10.3.9 and 10.4.x, which should include my computer.
I have also tried installing it by adding a new printer through the mac software. The computer finds the printer and I can add it, and when I click print from within Word it acts as if it is printing, i.e. the document shows up on the "completed jobs" list. But nothing comes out of the printer and the printer acts as if it never got the print job. The printer is on, I tried turning it on and off plus unplugging the power adapter, but without results.
I tried seaching on this forum and on the internet but couldn't find any useful entries. I know I'm not very good at searching though, so if I have overlooked a page please post the link. I would appreciate any help from people encountering similar problems.

Let's get rid of the HP software. You don't need it. Do it in this special way:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
Now, run a Software Update.
Finally, reset the printing system:
- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the print queue area and select Reset Printing System. WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Hi,
I've seen this message before under other installing-printer-problems. I already tried but with a number of problems:
- there is no HP Uninstaller in the Applications/Hewlett Packard/ folder so I can't follow those instructions
- I don't know how to do a Software Update when I'm already at the latest release
- I don't have a print queue area for all the printers under Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- I right/ctrl-clicked in all possible windows under Sys Prefs, Print & Fax - nothing showed up
- I can add the printer by clicking the plus-sign and adding the printer. It's there, it looks ok, but I still cannot print to it / nothing happens when I try sending a printjob to the printer / some times this message shows up in the under print queue: "opening printer connection failed: unable to open the printer connection. please check your printer".

- I don't know how to do a Software Update when I'm already at the latest release - Apple menu, Software Update - it will not update OS X 10.4.11, but it will update printer drivers.
- I don't have a print queue area for all the printers under Sys Prefs, Print & Fax - the print queue is the box that contains the list of printers for your Mac.

FInally, make sure you are not using a USB hub - plug the printer directly into your Mac. Also, try a different USB cable.
