I've loaded snow leopard on my mac book pro and also all the current drivers from hp but my computer won't recognise the scanner now. Everyway I try getting a scan doesn't work - unknown error comes up in photosmart studio and no device comes up through mage capture.

You may want to uninstall any drivers/software that was installed for 10.5, first.  Use the uninstaller in Applications, Hewlett-Packard. 

When you say 'current drivers' you mean 10.6 drivers, right?  Try this to be sure.

If this all fails, control (right) click in the print queue area (Sys Prefs, Print & Fax) and reset the printing system, then re-add the printer with the + sign at the bottom of the queue.

To Bills99: The HP Device Manager and the Photosmart Studio are applications for the 10.5 OS. Image capture is one of the viable scan methods for 10.6 but unfortunately it will not work either as this product does not support scanning on Snow Leopard. The link PrintDoc provided above is for a print only driver, and it is the only software currently available for use on 10.6 with this unit.

Sorry to resurrect this old topic, but...

I have an iMac running Lion, and a PSC1355 scanner/printer connected to an Airport Extreme.  I can print just fine but cannot scan.  Is it correct that scan support is not available for this printer under Lion?  Is scan is supported, what do I need to do?

I believe that only printing is supported.  It may be time for a new printer.

Based on HP Printer driver 2.7 compability list , the PSC 1300 series do support both printing and scanning, as you may find listed below:

Listed as HP PSC 1300 Series

Please try and remove any installed HP software for this product, as it is not compatible with Lion.

As well, enter System Preferences > Print & Scan and remove the existing printer queue.

Connect the USB cable directly to a free port on your Mac.

As your can see listed below, your product is not supported over the network by using an Airport base station:

Now add the prineter by using the Plus sign under Print & Scan, and the driver should be retrieved automaticaly.

For any case you are having any problem retrieving the driver from Apple software Update, download and install the full HP Printer Software 2.7 package below:

Now try scanning by using Apple Image Capture, located under Applications.

This is the issue. Direct connect only for scanning.
